Members jdixon Posted February 25, 2011 Members Posted February 25, 2011 I am looking at getting a new vice, had mine for 25yrs or so and it is very basic. I would like to get a nice one (with some bells and whistles) but don't want to break the bank either. I know there are alot of options just wanted to see what people on this board like and use.
duckydoty Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Peak rotary, and Renzetti Travelers are about the best bang for the buck. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
eric1978 Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Bought a Renzetti Traveler this winter. Love it. Very affordable, rotary, great jaws.
Njardar Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Peak rotary, and Renzetti Travelers are about the best bang for the buck. If you go for the Peak check out the midge jaws, to me the stock jaws were to big for 18 and smaller hooks. - Charlie
timsfly Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Dyna-King professional for me, been tying on the same one for over 30 yrs. Dyna-King makes some nice vices for 200$ and less. Members jdixon Posted February 26, 2011 Author Members Posted February 26, 2011 looking at the renzetti traveler ($194) and the presentation ($364) what is the main difference, is it just material used to make the vice plus nuts and bolts. they look the same minus a little more flash on the presentation.
eric1978 Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 looking at the renzetti traveler ($194) and the presentation ($364) what is the main difference One is about twice the cost of the other. If you're looking to tie huge streamers or saltwater flies, the Traveler probably won't be what you want. But for anything a trout or even a bass eats, it's a great vise. It's got nearly infinitely adjustable jaws, so it holds hooks of most sizes very well.
Members ozark flyflinger Posted February 28, 2011 Members Posted February 28, 2011 My vote is for the Renzetti Traveler. A great vise, I have been tying on mine for many years. Never a problem. Never heard of anyone unhappy with a Renzetti. Rotary is the only way to tie. Let us know which vise you chose.
