I frequently work in and near Forsyth. I've gone to Empire Park a few times and just threw in some Power Nuggets. I could use some advise on lures, and places to fish either around Empire, or a little further down 160. I'd love to throw some line after work once in a while, and would be on foot. I can fly rod it also. Any particular place or targets down that way?

That is a great fishing area. There are many places to fish but it would help a great deal if you told us what species you would be targeting and what type of fishing you want to do as there are trout, largemouth bass, small mouth bass, white bass and crappie just to name a few.

Try fishing right below the dam. Great place to fly fish or spin fish. I have caught rainbow trout and brown trout there on the fly rod along with walleye, small mouth, large mouth, spots, and white bass on spinning gear. Shadow Rock Park on Swan Creek is another good place to fish both fly rods and spinning gear. It wont be long and Shadow Rock will look like a trout park, just as soon as the whites move in there. If you drive a little further past Forsythe you can fish Beaver Creek at Slough Hollow. Another great place to fish both spinning gear and fly rods. I have caught trout in there this time of year and it is a great place to catch walleye. Lots of bass up there too.

I will try fishing below the darn. I'll probably try the Empire Beach access side. Is there good bank fishing there? I don't have a particular species I like to fish for. If I'm going for trout, I'll break out the fly rod. Any suggestions on flies below the darn?

Also, if I'm spinning, I'll be seeking walleye or bass. Suggestions on lures from the bank?

I've driven to Shadow Rock park. I've noticed the area that appears to be a tailwater on the left side of the road if you're heading east. Is this Swan's Creek?

I'm new to the whole Bull Shoals/Taneycomo fishing area, so I don't know all the names or areas yet.

Lots of great bank fishing from the Empire Beach side. You might want to bring waders to expand your fishing area a little. Be careful wading down there, it is rough. Fishing for trout on the fly rod, I would throw midges, sow bugs, soft hackles, and pine squirrel sculpins. Spinning gear for walleyes, whites and bass, I would throw swimming minnows, Berkley Power Bait Gulp Alive 3 inch minnows, and Sliders on 1/8 oz. jig heads with 4 to 6 pound test. My favorite colors for these are pearl, smoke, purple, and smelt. I usually bite the first 1/2 inch off the sliders to shorten them just a little. Rooster Tails will also work. Same lures for spinning gear at Swan and Beaver. Swan is the little creek that you go over just heading East and down the hill from Forsythe. You can fish the confluence of Swan and Bull Shoals.

You can also fish Bull Creek. It is the first creek you pass over on hwy F coming from Hwy 65 towards Forsythe. There is parking just behind the gas station where you can access the creek. There is some pretty good trout fishing there this time of year and it is a great alternative when they are generating water on Taney.

Welcome to the area! Lots of great places for you to start exploring. Hope to see you on the water.

If your going for walleye try purple swimming minnows or clown, purple back, or shad colored stickbaits after dark. Should be getting good anytime now....
