That's not how American politics works anymore. In an idealistic Republic, the government should fear the people. They have us all fearing them and they know it. Politicians do whatever it takes to get reelected rather than do what it takes to fulfill campaign promises.

This bill may get passed, and we, as sportsmen, will have to reap whatever they would have us reap.

While I agree that the "system" no longer works as it was originally designed, it never will work as it's original design if we all choose to sit back and take a defeated attitude. You sit back and "reap" what they would have you "reap". I'll sleep well knowing that I made an effort.

Your "effort" will be just like if I tried calling the White House about this. You will talk to somebody who has no interest in listening to you and will have wasted time doing so.

Your opinion has been noted, and I think it's great that you have an opinion. If you don't want to make a phone call, send an email or send a letter, that's cool because you have the right to do or not do any of those things. I just have one favor to ask of you, though. Lend me the favor of letting me have my opinion of what may make a difference. You may be right. It may not make a difference if I call, write, and send an email. It may not make a difference if I get my family and friends to do the same. And it may not make any difference that by posting on this forum someone else that I have never met may get inspired to call, write, or send an email and get their family and friends to do the same, but it surely will not make a difference if I sit back and do nothing at all except for sit here and post on this topic. I'm done posting here. Congrats. You have convinced me to redirect my "efforts".

Wow, go ahead and make a call or write a letter. It isn't going to matter what we want. The only thing that matters is the money they can save or spend in this case.

Eh, this topics done. We probably crossed the point awhile back. Look call a rep and it doesn't hurt anything. That's what they should be there for. No need to make a fuss out of it, or use pent up cabin fever here.

As far as the bill, outside of petitioning, maybe call up local newspapers. That's where I would go and you'll reach more people that way. Other than that the only thing I have to say is posting a welfare reference on a fishing forum is like arguing with your kid, it's hard to tell who the 4 year old is from across the room.

Man, this isn't about me versus you. I don't take anything that you've said personal (Did you want me to?). I just don't believe in sitting back and waiting for the repercussions, and I don't believe in encouraging others to sit back and wait either. This country didn't get to the powerhouse that it once was with a bunch of men and women sitting around and waiting to see what was going to happen, and it will never get back to where it was if we continue to stay on the course we're on. As I said, you're entitled to your opinion on the issue. You do whatever you want. I guess you and I have different outlooks on things. I'm sorry. I said the previous post was my last, but I guess I wasn't quite done yet.

I wish you well. I never intended for this to turn into a personal debate between the two of us, and I'm not looking for the last word. You take your course. I feel the need to take a different course.

I never said that I thought that hatcheries were welfare for fisherman. Thats what I heard from someone else. We need to realize most people in this country do not fish. An even greater number do not trout fish. Now you can make juvenile smart butt remarks about what I posted or maybe you can do something constructive. I'm not the one advocating cutting any outdoor recreation spending. Do you belong to Trout Unlimited or any other group that supports Trout fishing? Have you contacted your senators or representatives? So many times posting on a forum is lot easier than actually doing some thing constructive.

And then we vote them out and they will learn to fear the people.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

That is how it is supposed to work. How is it then that the most crooked of the politicians in this country have set up shop in Congress for more than 20 years? They do not fear their constituents anymore.

I wish it worked the way the system was set up, but it doesn't. Everything is partisan now and will be for the foreseeable future.

Like some on this forum, I have not signed the petition either. Like you, I don't think it does any good. But it's time for the people to wake up and stop voting for those people who do not work for us and only consider those who pay for their campigns and vacations. Stop voting party and ideological lines.
