GloryDaze Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Anyone else who knows the upper river pretty well. We're considering making the drive down from KC and STL to float Ponca to Pruitt this weekend. Any thoughts on floatability, I'm guessing by history we may be looking at 24-27" of airspace (we will put in Friday morning at Ponca) Also- how does the shuttle work if we put in there- we will park one car and leave it at Ponca and will need one shuttled to Pruitt. Can you do that or do we have to use BOC?? Thanks for the help! Follow me on Twitter @DazeGlory
gotmuddy Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 If you pay for someone to shuttle your vehicle then you only need one. River level I cannot help with. I just check gauges before I go. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
bobber Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 it's the low side of floatable . we are putting in at steel creek .... for a shuttle you can drop off all the canoes and gear @ ponca ,or steel creek. and leave 1 person to stand watch over it. then everyone drive to the take out... biggest car makes the trip back to the put in. going home, load up the up stream drivers canoe and gear. your done and you'll save some bucks. but you'll kill an hour and some. or come by the canoe shop on hwy 7 south of harrison .do the paper work and we will haul you and your gear from pruitt up to the top end @ponca or steel creek. ~~~~ you do know it's going to rain ? right. are you just river camping or fishing? if your fishing i would go lower like carver to woolum the water is still up down there....... just saying! ...... oh yeah! use LOST VALLEY . not the other guys! about 3 block farther down that same road.on the right. <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
GloryDaze Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 Well darn Bobber, I had left before I read your post. We end putting in at Ponca, a little low but floatable. We caught a few fish along the way but nothing sizeable. From what I hear, we also got a little lucky to miss the rain while we were on the river. We woke up Saturday morning to a few sprinkles, but then it just stayed cloudy. On another note, when we were takiing out on Sunday morning at Ozark we ran into a couple that was putting a raft in there. You didn't happen to be putting them in did you- wearing a hunter orange stocking cap? Follow me on Twitter @DazeGlory
bobber Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 that was charlie one of our guys.. we were zipping up and down the river all weekend. but we service the upper district(boxley to woolum) out of our canoe shop on hwy 7 south .and if you do 4 nights on the river we can pick you up anywhere on the river .all the way to ships ferry on the white river . they have some special deals on the web site floatthebuffalo.com and facebook @Buffalo River CANOES.... <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
hoglaw Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 That pic's awfully small. Are those smallmouth or walleyes on the stringer? Looks like 8 dead smallies to me.

Members 24KGold Posted March 28, 2011 Members Posted March 28, 2011 Makes me sad to see people keeping smallies on the Buffalo. I know thay have a right to but still sad to me. If we want to eat fish we'll keep Rock Bass or larger perch. They taste as good or better anyway. My wife and I have even gotten to the point where we pinch down our barbs so that we can cause less injury to the ones we catch and release. Barbless hooks are great on many levels...but that's a topic for another thread. Terry
