MaxDrown Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Will the Current River be fishable/wadeable safely and productively tomorrow, Sat. March 19? If so, are there any places to rent canoes and do a day float trip (below the park in trout water)? -- Max Drown
eric1978 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Wading below the park yesterday was a little tough, but manageable. Had to move about mostly on the trails. I'd say the Current is probably a better option than the Bourbeuse for you at this point, especially if you need to rent canoes. I don't know of any liveries on the upper Bourbeuse. Be aware that any additional rains could make the river dangerous in a hurry with the ground at complete saturation like it is. Montauk Spring and Pigeon Creek are both gushing right now.
Gavin Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Its running at 2.3 at Akers & falling today...thats about a foot up from dead low. Should be in good shape for streamer & cranbait fishing. Call Jadwin canoe if you want to float Baptist to Cedar...or Akers Ferry Canoe for Cedar to Akers.
stlfisher Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I fished it last weekend when it was about 6 inches lower and it was about perfect...only one spot that was difficult wading. You should be fine whether you choose to wade or float just be watchful so to speak. Lot's of split shot will be necessary and it will be hard to spot fish. There were ton's of people at Tan Vat last weekend so hopefully you have less crowds than we did if you fish that portion. The park fished pretty good last weekend so that is alwasy an option...the higher water made them less spooky. Good luck.
