mic Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Anyone want to try out Mill Creek on Friday the 25th? I was going with a work buddy, but work got in the way.
Members MST SigEp Posted March 23, 2011 Members Posted March 23, 2011 Sounds tempting but I'll be on a cruise!! In all seriousness a buddy of mine and I both went Monday from around 11am-4:30pm Fished a healthy section of the creek and caught about 4-5 smaller trout each. I caught a decent sized one near the end of our wade and guess it was probably close to 10-12in. All in all I thought it was a good first run on the creek (we normally fish Little Piney). To our surprise nymphs were not hitting and the drys were? Go figure... I had luck on a #14 elk hair caddis (tan/olive). Let me know how you fair, Maybe another day! Good Luck!
mic Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 Oh the life of a project manager...I had a project blow up today so I can make it out tomorrow. I'm going to try Sunday instead. Anyone interested in going let me know.
mic Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 You end up going to Mill today? No gas is to darn expensive to roll the dice. I didn't know what road conditions were going to be like on Sunday after the four inches of snow in St. Louis. In hind sight it probably would have been OK. I'm going to try again on Friday or Saturday...work and weather permitting.
Cocry Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I ended up going to Blue Springs this past Sunday. Roads were just fine. Caught my first wild trout about 6 inches. Kind of exciting. As my buddy and I were heading out, a gentleman came by and asked, gave him the story and he mentioned Mill Creek. Of course I'm now interested in going. If you're ever looking for someone to split the gas, let me know. Thanks!

mic Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 Ever end up going to Mill? Nope...ended up on the Meramec instead do logistics with the family. I still want to make it down in the spring while the flow is good.
Members 2manyhobbys Posted April 21, 2011 Members Posted April 21, 2011 I've fished Mill Creek a couple times in the last month. This is a typical small creek, with typical wild, small trout. (there are reports of bigger fish in here, however....) If your expectation is that you will catch a "record" trout, go to a trout park.. Recommend dry flies in the #14 range... Elk hair or anything brown... I catch a lot of 6 inch ones. The water is pretty shallow with the odd out "hole." Good luck.
