Stoneroller Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 you get what you pay for. i've seen multiple complaints about the rigidity of the plastic used on the ascends. warm weather, esepcially sunlight, plus being strapped to the top of a vehicle tends to cause the hull to dent and the dent can become permanent causing big stability/handling problems. i'm not saying rush out and buy a hobie, but there is a reason the majority of the 'popular' name brands are around $800-1000 for their 10-13 foot fishing kayaks. you get what you pay for. personally for strictly river fishing i'd go for the coosa, but for all around fishing in both rivers and lakes i like the moken by feel free. Yes, you do get what you pay for. My old yak I paid about $170 for it and it floated. Wasn't much good for anything else. As for yaks having problems with deformation of the hulls, that will happen to any yak that is sitting on top of your car in the sun and it's strapped down too tight. When plastic gets hot, it starts melting. Nothing you can do about that other than keep it out of the sun and store it properly. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
gotmuddy Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I have a ascend fs12 and for the price I paid it has been awesome. I floated CC monday and it handled the rapids great and I didn't drag once. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Members Liv2flyfish Posted March 25, 2011 Members Posted March 25, 2011 I bought mine early last spring and used it all summer on the Niangua, Eleven Point, Lake Springfield and the James River. Probably about a dozen times. I am a big guy, 270 pounds and I love it. I don't know if I will ever break oout my Old Town canoe again. I am an avid fly fisher. I love fishing the Ozarks and the White River watershed from the spring creeks to the tailwaters.
Trout Commander Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I don't know if I will ever break oout my Old Town canoe again. Is it a solo? I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
