Donna G Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Yikes! Left Northwest Arkansas at 6:45 this morning. Between battling the wind and rain all the way, it was a slow trip. We had already chickened out once after looking at the forecast and canceled our room, then decided to brave it anyway. Got checked in and on the water at Robin's Resort this afternoon for a couple of hours. Didn't go far. It sleeted the entire time. Water temps 48.6 to 49.9. Hubby caught one keeper LM. He laid it on the deck in the sleet for a picture. Heard from some anglers here fishing Children's Miracle Network that they couldn't get bit on a jerk bait. Changed to a Wart and caught 15. That'd work for me. Love the bump, bump, bump over the rocks, then slam! Tomorrow, frozen carpet and frozen trailer bunks. We're loading up and heading to the Niangua. Hopefully find some warmer water. Whatever we find will be warmer than the air temp. High of 39. Did I mention a chance of snow Sunday afternoon? On the plus side, the condo we are in at Robin's Resort is top notch. Besides being really nice and comfortable, we've got a great view of the boat dock and our slip. rangerman Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Hey Donna, My brother in law fished a tourney up there today, and pulled second (20 and some odd pounds) fishing white spinner baits paralleling the banks. Said they had 15 keepers total plus additional shorts. Something for ya to try.
Members FishinJack Posted March 27, 2011 Members Posted March 27, 2011 heard 12 bags of 20lbs in one of the tournaments today, don't know which one.
bjovan Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Donna I fish the CMN had 18.5 no check had to be at 20 for the money. Craziest weather I have ever fished in. Could only catch shorts on the jerkbait. Wart and the jig is how we caught ours we fished from davey to the new bridge the back side of secondarys. I talked to some guys that fished the niaguas and they had a wart bite up there pretty good. Good luck and stay warm
Donna G Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 Thanks, guys. Yeah we saw where there were some good bags in both OMTT and CMN and that you needed around 18lbs to even get a check. It might have been cold Saturday, but spring's coming. We fished longer on Sunday and found some warmer water. Did a little better. Between the two of us our best five weighed around 16. We came off the lake at 1:30 and didn't start until 8. Slackers. We had a long drive back home. I only caught one keeper out of the 6-7 we had. It was on an Academy H20 square bill. Think me and the fish were both surprised. Threw it in the dirt and cranked once. I thought, shoot, I've snagged something. I kept reeling and about the time I got even with a dock I noticed splashing. I'm an idiot. It's a wonder the fish didn't get off. Caught two shorts on a Wart and had another on I never saw. We won'be be back for two weeks. Fishing AIA at Table Rock on Saturday. Mine and hubby's 17th wedding anniversary. Woo-hoo! Celebrating it the way I like - fishing! Champ188 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 We'll be there Friday-Sunday, Denny. I think we decided to stay and just fish for fun Sunday. Have to check with Donna on that. Anyway, we'll get together Friday or Saturday night. Maybe we can have a hootenanny at the lodge.
Donna G Posted March 29, 2011 Author Posted March 29, 2011 Thought about you guys from the warm comfort of home this weekend. Maybe we can hookup this weekend ! Uh-huh. We had our boat in the slip overnight, but I saw a couple of guys that were in danger of going overboard if they set the hook too hard - solid sleet on their deck. We're leaving again Wednesday morning early for LOZ. I need Sunday at home to catch up on laundry, etc. Friday night will be our only opportunity to get together. If that doesn't work out we'll catch up with you and Jackie another trip. I'll let you and Champ figure that out. Looking forward to it.
