mic Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Was coming back from Piney Creek and stopped at gas station, ice cream bar, and restaurant called Cookin' From Scratch at the Newburg I-44 exit. The food was great and the prices were fair. If you have a huge appetite, they have one of those get a 66 oz burger for free if you can eat it all and fries in 66 minutes. If you are fishing the area or just passing through, give it a try. The gas station section also has a supply of chocolates from a local chocolater. I got the cereal and nut clusters...very good.
FishinCricket Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Good thread! There are a few hometown eateries in Lebanon that are definitely worth stopping in at too... Cornerstone Subs and Pizza is a locally owned shop that has homemade bread for their sandwiches, Stromboli from scratch and a fantastic pizza! Swiss Inn has a legendary Big Swiss steak (breaded slab of steak on a long bun with special (mildly) spicy sauce... Ollies BBQ is a fantastic sit down eatery that is on 64 hwy toward Bennett... The Sand Spring Resorts restaurant has a HUGE salad bar with several types of homemade breads and great soup selection... I'm sure I'm missing a few, but I am glad you started this thread! (please note: I do not have any stake in any of these businesses) cricket.c21.com

(please note: I do not have any stake in any of these businesses) No "stake" but a few "Swiss Steaks" now and then. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
FishinCricket Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 No "stake" but a few "Swiss Steaks" now and then. As much as once a week (if I can afford it)... Truly, it's a bit of an obsession. They're that Danged good! cricket.c21.com
ness Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I have et at Cookin from Scratch, and it's powerful good. I remember I ordered 'chicken and dumplinGs', and the waitress corrected me and said it's 'chicken and dumplins' (no 'G'). Anyhoo -- good stop if you're in the area. John

I don't know if it is still open, but that smokehouse right outside the Bennett park on the hill is really good.

mic Posted April 4, 2011 Author Posted April 4, 2011 The Hillbilly Burger? Can't remember, but it is the first building on the hill (to the right) outside the park. Last summer the smoker was in the rear of the parking lot.
ness Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 Proof positive that Ness is a bit uptight? Naw -- this girl just wasn't gonna let some city slicker come in and mispronounce the daily special, which I think is kinda funny. Get it now? I've also had really good fried chicken there. John
