Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 Water level is 868.12 Temp is 56-58 up the rivers, and about 52 on the main lake Clarity is normal to stained up the river, normal on the main lake Walleye-I have heard of some fish still hitting on main lake points using jerk baits, so if you are looking for some good walleye, the dam is the place to be still. A few fish are being caught up the rivers by crappie fisherman. I just had one tonight, for dinner!! Crappie are hitting, and doing pretty good up the river arms. The fish are still staging on channel drops. Use jigs and or minnows and concentrate on the edge of the river where the water comes up onto a flat, or where a channel swings in to a point. The evening bite seems to be a little stronger, but they are biting all day long. This time of year, the fish can move quickly from the the channel drop up to 3 or 4 foot of water. If they slow down on you, try moving a little shallower. Bass are fair to good, and if you get into the right area, you can get some really big fish. Use jigs or slow roll spinnerbaits along rocky banks in 6-12 foot of water. White bass can still be caught up the rivers, but have slown down, but if you enjoy the excitment of fighting the whites, get up there. Had some really nice fish today, but had to go way up the river to get them. Remember, water is still pretty cold, bring some dry clothes and wear that life jacket!! Feel free to call me if you have any questions. Thunderin Gobbler Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 I went fishing yesterday with Marty Thompson (Thompson's guide Service). My brother-in-law won a trip with him and took me along. I can't complain about a free trip. We put in around noon at Roark Bluff and boy was it windy. He thought we would be able to get into some walleye around Chicken Rock with jerkbaits, but we couldn't buy a bite. It was too windy for is to try any crappie fishing. Most of the water temps were about 52 degrees. We did find a few spots back in around the Mutton creek docks that were at 55 degrees, and that's where we caught our only fish. In 6 hours fishing, I caught 2 small largemouths and Marty had one. Brother-in-law didn't hook anything at all. I guess it wasn't all bad though. We did learn some new areas that I'd never fished before and he showed is some spots that should be good for crappie in a few weeks.
Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 Crappie fishing was awesome today. I had to go to the dentist, but my cousin had a limit in couple hours. Sorry you guys didn't get into them yesterday, but don't get discouraged, they are out there. If you get in the right place you will catch crappie. They are staging to spawn, so get in the right place and dinner is fresh fish. I have fished state park and back to aldrige but never been on the south end toward cc.
