laker67 Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 In the past two to three days, Kdan and I have been catching male crappie that are starting to change into their dark spawning colors. Today we caught crappie on spawn brush in 2 feet of water. This is the start of the 2011 spawn. Lots of fish still in 10 to 12 feet of water, but a few making their way to the banks. Visibility is still less than 2 feet, so this makes for ideal conditions.
Members Fishin Fanatic Posted April 6, 2011 Members Posted April 6, 2011 Good Report, I'm planning on heading down to LOZ this weekend and It'd be great to get in on the crappie spawn...By the way, what is the water temp down there right now?

Good luck to you this weekend. Not sure of the water temps. With the warm sun and the wind, it is pushing the surface water into the banks. Those fish we found yesterday, were still on the bank this morning. More wind and sun today, it should continue to improve.

Blue/white and red/white always catch fish for us. I caught one this morning that still had my jig in his mouth from yesterday. I hooked him, he went around a limb, he see sawed me back and forth a few times and then the line broke. Three inches of my line and the jig were still attached to him. That's a first for me.
Members Fishin Fanatic Posted April 10, 2011 Members Posted April 10, 2011 My buddy and I caught 2 limits yesterday, all of the fish were in 8-15ft over brush. We caught all of ours on chartreuse or white grubs. I can't wait to get these babies in the fryer.
Guest csfishinfool Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I was up the Niangua arm on Saturday. Caught them in less than two feet of water. Behing the docks that had shallow brush. All three of us limited out in about 2 hours. Caught them on chart. and green, and blue and white crappie jigs. Water temp was 60-63 degrees. Docks closer to deep water were better than the rest.
Members CapnKenny Posted April 12, 2011 Members Posted April 12, 2011 Any thoughts from anybody as to how this upcoming cold front will effect the crappie this weekend?
slothman Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Any thoughts from anybody as to how this upcoming cold front will effect the crappie this weekend? I think it may slow them down a little and maybe push them off the bank just a bit. It isn't going to be as cold as they were first saying I don't think. It might not affect them too terribly bad. After the storms move through and it gets warm again, we should see the fish progressing nicely. I give them about another two weeks until they are really hitting it good. Just one man's opinion.
Members CapnKenny Posted April 15, 2011 Members Posted April 15, 2011 Slothman, thanks for the feedback. My little boy and I will be out there tomorrow - wind and all. If we find them I'll be sure to post the details.
