Does Anybody Throw This Anymore?

We all know about the shaky head, or dragging a rig around with centipedes and fish drs, but does anybody throw the old texas rigged plastic worm anymore. It seems like maybe it's not en vogue or "cool" to use anymore but I remember years ago catching the hell out of em up by Indian Point on a 6-7 inch motor oil or brown worm on a 1/4 ounce bullet weight.

Did well in April 2008 flipping a 7" worm for smallmouth on big trees during the high water. That was about the last time. Threw TX rigs around some wood and docks last year but was not too exciting. Always have one tied on, but more likely to be a 4" lizard or tube for beds.

Caught one of my biggest on a texas rigged worm last summer near Mill Creek.

Funny you should mention this. Im still stuck on Nebraska fishing so Texas Rig as about all I do (besides weightless Senkos).. I was on the Indians Creeks the Sunday -Tuesday ( WINDY as heck I might add) and I caught 5 LM & Kentuckys son caught 3, all were btw 14-18". We did peg the weight about 10" from the black blue flake worm and again with the green with blue flakes worms...Granted we broke off alot being snagged on rocks- but it was worth it. I could have done without the whitecaps though.. all in 52 degree water about 20 feet deep.

We caught our share of them on Creme purple fire tails back many decades ago. The water is different now because a lot of the wood is gone and it's not as clear.

I will throw it in early summer for a while, but I just don't catch that many fish on it. Even in my younger age (30), it doesn't seem like they hit the plain 'ol power worm like they used to. I usually end up throwing a jig or brush hog instead. At night, I will throw a 10-12" worm, but haven't thrown a 6 or 7 in years.

I like to fish a 10" texas rigged worm during the hotter Summer months at night. It is one of my favorite rigs to fish.

6" texas rigged worms will catch fish on Table Rock too... during the Spring and Fall. During those times, I almost always go with a texas rigged craw instead though.

Think it gets used less partly because we are so busy fishing wind to stay with active fish. Leads to grubs, sticks, rigs, FB jigs, other stuff you can feel and get deep faster than the old T-rig. Also does not come through the rocks as well as some other rig options.

I don't fish it much at TR as I find the football head shaky head get stuck much less often than the bullet shaped TX rig weight.

I'll still throw the old texas rigged worm, it's what i grew up fishing with so it's hard to totally get away from it...a 7 or 10" tequila sunrise powerworm is my absolute favorite. I've caught quite a few good bass on the 10" in the summertime.
