Greg Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Mitch I'd just like to say I'm sorry if you feel anyone has attacked you (including me). You are certainly entitled to your opinion on this. I'm sure Phil feels that way too. You probably don't care what this old man thinks but I think you handled yourself well through this thread. I enjoyed the Mark Twain quote. I hadn't heard that in years. "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell
Al Agnew Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Being a moderator isn't easy and is bound to step on somebody's toes from time to time. When you delete a thread, it's bound to be disappointing to whoever made the last couple of posts, because those are the ones that end up getting the least amount of views before it all goes away into the cyberether. So when do you whack it? It usually happens when things start getting nasty and personal, or when the posts are flying thick and fast between two or three people and you can at least see the train has built up a head of steam and the bridge is out. Phil has never made his political biases clear here that I can see. I can guess, and my guess would be somewhat the opposite of Mitch's. Reason for that is, people have an unlimited ability to see what they want to see. I'm as guilty of it as anybody. It's why those on the conservative side of things rail about the liberal media, while those on the liberal side are pretty sure the media often shows a conservative bias. It's why, from a conservative viewpoint, a politician is center-left, while liberals believe him to be center-right. We all tend to "notice" the things that reinforce our own beliefs more than the things that contradict them. mixermarkb 1
drew03cmc Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 My mistake Drew Not referring to you here but when posting I knew this wouldn't be a popular thread and I would get attacked for it, but it had to be said. What cracks me up is that a person with an opposing viewpoint can't state that opinion without some people getting personal and calling names. Those young guys need to take lessons from Eric and Cricket. The fact is my opinion hasn't changed but Phil and I are OK. Speaking of White bass, I posted a couple of weeks ago I went 8 miles north of Mt.Ida, Arkansas and caught a bunch of females on the Ouachita river. All 2 pounds and above. The easiest fishing a person can ever do. Mitch, it may shock you, but I am younger than both Cricket and Eric. I like them both and love their posts, even if Eric and I may seem like a dog and a cat at times. I, too, would have to place my guess on Phil's allegiances to be center-right or so, but on a fishing site, what the hell difference does it make? Threads get closed when people get personal, and it does not matter which side makes comments. Andy
Danoinark Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Let me reiterate Phil did not shut down that thread, I did. I started it and when the threat of the budget issue was over for the time being I got rid of it as the purpose was only as an informational piece. I have known Phil along time, been an admin on this board for years, and still don't know how he votes or what party he leans, nor do I care. I doubt from any posts that I have made is it clear as to my political leaning. I would be happy to fish with anyone here and call them my friend despite how they feel about single issues. I have friends on the left, right and in the center and we are still friends and will remain so. Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"

If everyone were completely, and I mean completely honest with themselves I don't think there would be too much difference in our political beliefs. I have been a small business owner since 1998, and my opinion has been slowly sculpted since then. A former union employee myself, I have been on both sides of the fence and can appreciate both perspectives. I will tell you that owning your own business and working for someone else are so different that neither one can be expected to understand the other side. I know you were a former school teacher Al and were probably in the NEA, just like Zipstick. You now have your own business and know the difficulties involved with things like deadlines, payroll, etc. We have different views base on many things, I'd venture to guess that your parents molded your opinion as well. The thing is, regardless of your beliefs there should be a respect on both sides (which you always show). I really doubt either of us will ever change very much, maybe a little bit though. Zach Bearden Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Guys, can we at least pay a little attention to our grammar? I've seen the word "your" abused so much in this thread. I think this is also the precise reason why Congress can't seem to get things done at times (LOL). Zach Bearden Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 So what is "your" problem? I think my biggest issue right about now is that I can't decide what I want to tie tonight. I know I need to tie some caddis but I really need to fill in the gaps on my nymph box. Any suggestions?? "Its clearly Bree time baby!" Member: 2009 U.S. Youth Fly-Fishing Team.
