Went with my wife and her mother on our weekly trip to the Chinese market. Guess what was for sale? Thought it was illegal in MO.

MDC says they they could have raised them for sale using a commercial fishing license but thought it wouldn't be cost effective to do that. They are sending an agent to check it out.

Here is the video I took.

Either they were farmed or they were only keeping fish that were the exact same length?

These markets are a major vector for snakehead introductions too.

How much were they charging? Oh. There it is. 8.00. That's about the price they would cost from a fish farmer so they're not retailing them. And judging by the density in the tank and the one rolling on its side they don't have restocking in mind.

You hit the nail on the head, they had snake heads, eels, ocean fish, smelt, trout, striped bass, etc.

I think in the video the bass were $6.99 a pound

$7.99

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

right idea, wrong fish. should be selling a unlimited supply of asian carp.

im curious if they would trade L0L

That's weird. Are they going to let you know the outcome?

Yeah, they said they would let me know. My guess is the Chinese are doing something shady, and will plead ignorance. That cultural revolution mentality won't let them think that fish are for anything more than being eaten. I've taken them fishing, they're not into catch and release.

It'll be interesting to see what happens. One the one hand bass and bluegill fillets have had an increasing demand in Asian markets, and many university aquaculture programs have been trying to figure out how to exploit that market. They could've been raised in hatcheries.

On the other hand, the fish in the video seem quite a bit larger than what you typically see raised in aquaculture settings...

You might be surprised how rare the ethic of catch and release is world-wide.

We're barely even a majority in the US. Many foreign cultures look at it as something weird and unnatural.

I watched the video a couple of times and thought I might have seen a bit of ich/fungus on one of the bass fins. If they have that, they have probably been in culture. Not sure that's what I saw though.
