Mitch f Posted April 12, 2011 Author Posted April 12, 2011 You might be surprised how rare the ethic of catch and release is world-wide. We're barely even a majority in the US. Many foreign cultures look at it as something weird and unnatural. I watched the video a couple of times and thought I might have seen a bit of ich/fungus on one of the bass fins. If they have that, they have probably been in culture. Not sure that's what I saw though. If you listen closely you can hear the chopping off of fins and heads. I wonder if god(aliens, big bang, gaseous cloud causing hallucinations, or however people want to characterize/explain religion now) watches our forum for entertainment? If so, I think I’m going to the lake of fire for laughing at that post boys ang girls. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis
Outside Bend Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Makes more sense to me than spending hundreds to go fish for them competitively <{{{><
Kayser Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 1- Bass taste fine. I know of a few lakes where they were overpopulated, and had an awesome day fishing, followed shortly by a fish fry. 2- Carp aren't that bad when cleaned/cooked right. Buffalo, grass carp, and asian carp are a little better, though (about in that order, too). It's just the whole mentality of that they can come out of muddy/slack water and were preferred food for the lower socio-economic classes (and immigrant ethnic groups) way back when, and people just can't be open-minded enough to get past that. The smell of the slime probably doesn't help with that, though... Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
aftersh0ck Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I have property at a 100 acre that they messed up with over stocking grass carp and spraying. they are having a under 12 inch bass tourney and fish fry. they did it last year with over 120 bass. I think they should wait another year or before doing it again. sucks because half the azzbags wont through the smallmouth back that we stocked.
