duckydoty Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Had a great time on the river last night and got to fish with some great people too. MC and I got down there about 6 p.m. , shuttled all the gear across, fired up the grill and started fishing. The bite was there, but it was not on fire. Micheal Kyle and his wife showed up, Phil Lilley, his nephew Ryan, and a couple of his buddies made it down, and of course there were a few of the regulars out too. We all caught some good fish, ates some smoked pork picnic roast and smoked chicken, and it was a beautiful night to be on the river. MC and I did not start keeping fish till after dark, but ended up with 15 between the both of us. I think MK and his wife had 15 between the both of them, and I know Phils crew were toting around some fish too. Dark colors clousers were working best for the fly fishing people. Purple and pink, black and grey. I dont know what color swimming minnows were working for the spin fishermen, but I'm gonna guess purple. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 14, 2011 Root Admin Posted April 14, 2011 Just finished cleaning fish. 4 of us had 33 whites. 7 were sows and 2 of them were spawned out. So were some of the males. We caught most of them on purple. Stood out waste deep, casted out across and just let it bounce the bottom. Caught most of mine at a 45 degree angle downstream on the swing. Tom caught his just holding it almost straight downstream. I was using 1/8th oz heads and he was using 1/16th oz heads. Man it was a great night to be out. Moon was not full but it lit up everything. Lots of activity down there at night- ppl getting stuck in their trucks across the river, boats trying to pull out at the ramp, hearing guys brag about snagging walleye and doubling their limit of whites... you know voices carry along way across water Thanks for the great food and showing us it's done... Doty's!!
Micheal Kyle Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Yep was a good time and great food for sure, I wonder how the walk back over was for a few sleepers:) I would agree on the slow bite we also had 15 between the 2 of us. Had lots of nice sows in the aggregate Should be a good night tonight to stand on a gravel bar during a storm:) let's do it again soon. To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
