Members brianetz1 Posted April 18, 2011 Members Posted April 18, 2011 I'll be making my once a year trip down to the Rock the weekend of the 28th. My father and i do this every year (check my posts from last year) and only get out 1 time a year. Staying at Hickory Hollow in the shell knob/viola area and fishing for LM. I have seen in a few different threads mentions about "the tournament" going on that weekend. We are going to be renting plain old john boats and putting our own motors on there.........are we going to be getting swamped out of everything even being as far away from the main part of the lake as we are? Secondly, my resources are limited at best, what would be the top 4 things you would invest in that would give me the best chance to catch fish that weekend? And the obligatory, how would you fish them? I know we are still 2 weeks away, but i have also seen posts explaining that "tips" are going to be few and far between for that week because of "the tournament" ANy help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We always have fun and were down there even when we happened to come down during the 100 year flood that you guys had 3 years ago. Thanks in advance for hany help anyone can give me. Brian
getfished Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I'm not local to the lake but I wouldn't be afraid to drag a c-rigged centipede in some natural colors around on some mid depth gravel flats if you can locate some of them. http://www.tacklespecialty.com/
rps Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Bill Babler answered a similar question yesterday. I believe what he said will help you greatly. Don House also made a recent post on a similar level. Between the two you should find every thing you need. Have a great time.

Have a great time. thanks, i tried to reference those two and got what he mentioned on there. With the high water is this going to change anything? still fishing popper/redfin in the morning, then throwing jig/craw or shakey after about 10? I honestly really appreciate any help anyone can give, and will try and update the thread daily with anything that i find out about the area while i am down there. I think hollow has internet in their cabins.
techo Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 What has worked for me in the past.....if the water is still rising then look for where the green bushes meet the water. If water going back down look for where the old shoreline is. They tend to congregate there for a bit. Then back to transition banks. Tim Carpenter
Stump bumper Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 LOOK OUT WITH SMALL BOATS, currently in flood stage, there will be trees floating and current everywhere. This weather is changing everything, Beaver will be opening flood gates all rivers and streams over the flood banks and 2 more days of rain coming so call ahead Friday to make sure the place you plan to get boats are still renting this weekend. I am over at Beaver, but Table Rock is getting this just as bad, I have friends near the lake who thought they were on high ground that can't make it to work because of flooded roads. If you want lawn charis they will be floating all over the lake.
troutgnat Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 As just stated, head for the bushes and get the flippin rod out. Big Tubes, sweet beavers, jigs, etc. Also, white spinnerbaits with white blades burned in and around the bushes, second that with some shallow running crankbaits and pink floating worms if they get really active. I'd first look for them to be tight to the bushes.............D Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"
