Flysmallie Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 It's a pretty simple pattern. The biggest thing is going to be the balsa body. Thomas is big into balsa and carves all the bodies himself.
Trout Commander Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 He is talented for sure. I bet a simpleton such as myself could use some foam instead and still catch a couple. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Flysmallie Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I bet a simpleton such as myself could use some foam instead and still catch a couple. I doubt it. Seriously foam would be the best option, for me anyway. I like the balsa stuff, but there is to much work involved when you can quickly do the same thing with foam.
Trout Commander Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 We should meet up on a local stream sometime and wet a line. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Trout Commander Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Done. I'll bring the beer and you pick the place. With the exception of taking my boy to lake Springfield and drowning bait for catfish I have not fished anywhere within 30 minutes of Springfield. Shoot me a pm sometime. Bill B. Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 The biggest rainbow I ever caught (3-4 pounds) on the Niangua River hit a live cicada that I'd impaled on a small gold hook. It was late in May 1973, I think, and there was an incredible hatch in the river valley. Cicadas were flying back and forth across the river constantly, and the noise was out of this world. You could catch rainbows and smallmouths all day long off by drifting cicadas on the surface. I'd love to relive that.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Trout Commander Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I don't have a boat and am looking for something more local. However I cannot wait to go back to Shoal Creek. Flysmallie Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Why not go to Shoal Creek? Well it's not because we are scared.
