Guest P. owensby Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 A lot of accusations, but little information. It is not necessarily environmentally friendly to use dishes either, I'm sure they heated a lot of water and used a lot of soap to clean them. So if you recycle the plastic the impact may be neutral. Justin there is a small group called the Third Way. They are Democrats who are liberal on social issues and financially conservative. I have to laugh at the post that all landowners on streams are conservative, some will say anything to try and make a point. Sounds like that is a libertarian platform....
Mitch f Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Al, I can almost bet no one on this forum will demonize you for your environmental stance. You are always about three steps ahead of most of us. I will take one exception to what you said though. I don't believe all environmental issues are related to money. Take the Sierra club for example, I would be all about supporting them had it not been for their pro choice stance. This is a deal killer for me. Morally I just can't support them. I know they want to control the worlds population so there is less stress the planet. Having said that, I consider my politics similar to Justin's original post, fiscally conservative but environmentally liberal. Too bad we can can't pick and choose with this shitty 2 party system. Wayne SW/MO Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Sounds like that is a libertarian platform.... Shhhhh. Too bad our shitty 2 party system can't work together for the good of all and get over the party line bickering. Work together for all? Have you seen their benefit package? It's obvious they're not working for us because we don't get anything near that. Trust me, they have no problem working together if it's convenient. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Mitch, I understand where you're coming from on the Sierra Club, but that stance is a small part of their international social justice position. They believe that by "empowering" women (I don't like that word but I can't think of a better one) in third world countries to have control of their own reproduction, they not only begin to control population growth, but improve the economic situation in those countries or regions, with the result of a better economy making it easier to protect land and wildlife in those areas. Actually, as a member of the Sierra Club, I've seen very little, if any, emphasis on "pro-choice", though...it's more about contraception. But your outlook is the perfect example of priorities. If abortion is a deal breaker for you, you are forced to support organizations and politicians that you might detest for a lot of their other stands, and oppose those who you would otherwise like. Others might feel as you do on abortion, but give it a lower priority, thus allowing themselves to support otherwise good people. Not saying you're wrong, either, or they are right.

I, like many of you, don't really care for either party. However, IMO the biggest threat this country faces is the devaluation of the dollar. $6/gallon gas this summer will decrease traffic to outfitters and tourist destinations that depend on people driving significant distance. Unfortunately the only people seriously addressing this issue are the Tea Party folks and some Republicans.

And yet the premise of this thread is to demonize their efforts to save money if it runs afoul of someones pet project or notion about being progressive/socialist. It's all well and good to waste money and/or spend more for feel good stuff, if you have money to waste. We no longer do. We are all going to have to accept that we as a nation were on a drunken spending binge that has hurt our economy and our future world standing. We are all going to feel a lot of pain to get back on the right tracks, fiscally speaking. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha

The cold hard truth that everybody has to face because both parties let us down this path, but hopefully with the new WAVE of conservitives (notice I said conservitives and not republicans, republicans are only fiscally responsible when they are on the campaign trail)we will be able to right our finacial ship that was astray for the first six years of the decade under RINO Bush, and the even more horrid fiscal practices that has been underway since the commies ( I mean dems, sorry) took over in 06' on a anti-war platform that many of THEM voted for. But also some middle-common ground HAS to be out their to agree on, so that we can move forward. There, shots fired across both bows. Retorts are welcomed... Hopefully we will be able to fish streams again very SOON.
flytyer57 Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 ...We are all going to feel a lot of pain to get back on the right tracks, fiscally speaking. And in my book, that means raising taxes. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. When the country is going broke, YOU DON'T CUT TAXES. That is the biggest lie from the left I have ever heard. "Cut taxes and the economy will get better." BS! Reagan did it and the economy tanked along with the deficit increasing. Bush did it and the economy tanked along with the deficit increasing. Raise those taxes like Clinton did and watch the economy take off as the deficit is reduced. Even a 1st grader can add better than some in Washington politics. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
