jay bird Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Fished last night out of Eagle Rock and had this one right at dark. This is my biggest bass and did not have a scale in the boat. She was almost 25 inches long and a quick girth was 16.5 to 17 inches. Let her take a trip in the livewell to recover for an hour then released with no problems. Hardest fighting bass I have ever had on the end of my line. Wish I had a scale, but I would guess 7.5#s-8#s. I have had a couple 6-6.5#s with scale and this one dwarfed them. Not the best picture.
Quillback Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I caught a bass this winter with almost the same dimensions, it weighed 9.2 according to my scale. Here's an online fish calculator, that gives an estimate of 9.8 for a fish that's 25 long and 16 girth. I think you may have underestimated. Heck of a fish by any measure! http://www.bassresource.com/bassfishing/fishcalculator.html
edwin Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 great catch! "Advantages are taken, not handed out"
RSBreth Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 great catch! That's the only bad thing when you catch a nice one in the dark - pretty hard to get a good picture. Nice Bass!

Quill, I have tried that out on all our Black Bass Species--Jaws,K's and LM and it is not even remotely close. It is so far off that you really don't even have an idea. I have tried it againt a Cull/Rite that is very accurate and the formula is both over and under. It is really off on Jaws as they are long and wide and usually very light. It had my 6.3 pound Jaw, weighing about 9 pounds. It had the bass I caught a couple of months ago, weighing 13.34. See what it says about a 16 in K. It will not be as close as a pound. Would be great if there were indeed a way to just measure the fish and determine the weight. Unfortunatly we ain't seen it yet. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Quillback Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Yep, I did not mean to imply it was something you could use to get an exact weight, I have found it to be close however, but that's only using largemouth. And it can get you in the ballpark if you ain't got nothing to weight your fish . State of OK wildlife department keeps lake records for largest fish, just saw where a fellow caught an 11.4 lb. bass out of Lake Holdenville. Length 23.5, girth 20.5, ran it through the calculator and the calc said 11.09, so it was in the ball park.

Some of those Char, that Phil and I were catchng in Alaska last year, had a length of 36 inches and a girth of 28 inches. I would have loved to have seen a LM with a girth of over 20 inches. What a pig. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
