jah Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 Gentlemen- I am a trout fisherman who hates the taste of trout. The streams may also be blown out this weekend, and I have been given a free pass by my wife to fish. I would love to catch a mess of crappie to filet for the family, but I have no boat nor any interest in renting a boat. Where is the best place I can go to catch a limit of decent sized crappie that I can filet? Jigs or minnows? I live in the St. Louis area, so any lake in the area is fine for me. Thanks in advance for any and all help!! Jim
Chris Barclay Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 If I were you, I'd go out to Busch to Lake 33 and rent a boat (only 5$). however with the weather we're scheduled to have this weekend it may be a bit dicey. You may do okay from the bank but it won't be quite as productive. Chris St. Louis, MOcbarclayflyrods.combreambum.blogspot.com
snagged in outlet 3 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 It can be difficult to catch crappie of decent size at Busch. I'm usually tight lipped about fishing holes near the Lou but give this a try. http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/applications/moatlas/AreaSummaryPage.aspx?txtAreaID=7901&txtAreaNm=&txtCounty=LINCOLN&txtRegion=&txtUserID=guest&txtDivision= We used to regularly take limits of big crappies out of this slough. We always used minnows on a jig head. We would walk out on the downed trees and hang them minnows in the submerged branches out at the end of the tree. I haven't been there since the 80's so it's not exactly current info but take it for what it's worth. Let us know how you make out. Pete
