Any roads flooded? judging by the sound of the rain on the roof I am going to say that the strawberry cannot be crossed right now nor the creek that runs through our property. 07055607 Crooked Creek at Kelly Crossing at Yellville, AR 04/24 18:45 CDT 16.61 5,870 --- 07056700 Buffalo River near Harriet, AR 04/24 18:45 CDT 13.67 14,400 1,100 today is NOT a good day to be out on the river. 07057500 North Fork River near Tecumseh, MO 04/24 18:45 CDT 13.73 -- 18,500 978 07058000 Bryant Creek near Tecumseh, MO 04/24 19:15 CDT 15.91 -- 17,600 643 everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Guest Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Residents along the Illinois River have been advised to evacuate. Discharge, cubic feet per second Most recent instantaneous value: 30,600 04-24-2011 21:15 CDT Gage height, feet Most recent instantaneous value: 19.86 04-24-2011 21:15 CDT We live on Clear Creek in Wedington Woods, Near Savoy. It's a main tributary of the Illinois River,so is Osage Creek. The floodwater is backing up as I type this. I'm not sure as to when its going to crest, I'm thinkin 3am. So, I will be up all night watching in case we have to move up to higher ground. We've seen 5 major lightning bolts striking around our trees tonight. I could see the flames on 2 of them.
id10t Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 It's official. We've got ourselves a blockbuster flood event. The "little creek" behind my house is reminiscent of the Miss. River. Remember what happened at "Albert Pike"???????? That kinda damage is in progress throughout the Ozarks.... I pray for anyone camping near any of our rivers and streams tonight. It's bad, real bad. We could lose our barn (this is very likely now) and possibly our home to flooding. Thank God for insurance... What happened at Albert Pike is nothing like what is going on with these cells. (not to belittle these cells) The problem at Albert Pike & (Oklahoma City a few days before) were the cells stopped dead when they stopped being pushed by the jetsream. The Albert Pike cell literally stopped over the area and it rained for 3-4 hours in one spot not including the rain in the hours before and after when the cell was moving. Take a look at the Doppler images from this report. Albert Pike Report These cells are moving and most of them quickly. They are producing a lot of rain and filling the drainages but atleast the cells are moving on. Albert Pike was a strange maybe once in a lifetime situation as was the flooding in OKC at the time. I hope to never see it happen again. I am not trying make light of what anyone else is dealing with at this point. We have several more days of unpredictable weather. I hope everyone is safe and everyone's property is ok. btw a new gauge has been installed at Albert Pike Albert Pike Gauge.
gotmuddy Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 07059450 Big Creek near Elizabeth, AR 04/24 23:45 CDT 12.23 -- --- that is the closest gauge to me, the creek is rolling along really good. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
flyrodman Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 The pond behind my house that has dropped 7 feet in 5 years has now accumulated about 2-3 ft of water, the James River I'm sure it is a raging torrent of chocolate milk right now. Luke Walz
Guest Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Yep, its no Albert Pike, but it needs to stop raining soon. The authorities are saying the Illinois River will crest near 28ft tonight. There are many rivers and streams in our area that have seen 10-15" of rain since friday. Illinois River at Siloam Springs Discharge, cubic feet per second Most recent instantaneous value: 50,900 04-25-2011 12:00 CDT Gage height, feet Most recent instantaneous value: 20.89 04-25-2011 12:00 CDT Clear Creek needs a gauge, its draining parts of Fayetteville, Springdale, Johnson, etc. Lots of concrete parking lots upstream, not helping the situation.
flytyer57 Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Ain't gonna have to worry about dragging on the Buffalo anytime soon. Stoneroller Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 come on now, it's water, we are fisherman, grab your boat/waders/canoe/kayak and a fishing rod and get to it!! I just looked and there is an area at the southwest corner of Missouri that has had over 16 inches of rain in the past 7 days... st francis river is at 16 feet and will kill you if you try to whitewater it. Huzzah is a 9.5 feet and 5500cfs. that's 6.5 feet over normal and 10x's the highest recorded discharge rate for this date... two words that'll get this thread locked... Global Warming...
