Guide for the White River

Recommended Posts

I am graduating in August with my masters and my dad (who is not a fly fisher) wants to congratulate me with a guided trip for the two of us on the White River. I have not fished the White and I am not familiar with the outfitters down there.

I am looking for some trusted names to contact to set up a trip for my father and myself. We are hoping to plan a trip in September.

Thanks

There are several.

John Gulley is friend of my family so I recommend him first and I believe he has been guiding on the White longer than anybody.

Jimmy is in Alaska right now but he'll be back soon.

You can't go wrong with any of these guys. I put them in order of my preference. Good luck and post a report when you get back.

Snagged.

I've always heard Jim Traylor (Jimmy T) is one of the best on the White. I've never fished with him but have met him. He seems like a nice guy. Here's his website:

Jimmy T is back from Alaska. He got back today, and certainly one of the best on the White.

I would also check out John Berry from our board here too. John knows what he is doing and well respected.

I think its www.berrybrothersguides.com

I am not sure if Jeremy Hunt is guiding on the White right now.

All that have been mentioned are excellent and you couldn't go wrong.

Are you bait fishing or fly fishing?

If you're fly fishing, John Wilson is very good.

If you're spin/bait fishing, just pick one.

Think we should warn him about JW's netting abilities, Ken?

Honestly, JW will put you on good big fish... As will Jimmy Trayler, John Berry, and several others mentioned.

Anyone heard from Brian Wise and is he still guiding on the White/Norfork?
