troutfiend1985 Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Not that I have ever wanted to eat the darned things. But apparently they have been linked to leprosy. So, the next time you have wild hair, don’t eat an armadillo. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42788111/ns/health-infectious_diseases/?gt1=43001 “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Trout Commander Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 They still make suitable helmets though, right? I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
troutfiend1985 Posted April 28, 2011 Author Posted April 28, 2011 Uh oh!!! Too late. Does that mean you're a lepor? Or are you saying you ate an armidillo? “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I can remember seeing baskets made from them when I was a kid. I was watching a wildlife show a few days ago and they said that either the Armadillo or opossums can carry tuberculosis, I can't remember which it was.. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Kayser Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Both can technically carry TB, but armadillos are the higher risk, I think. I did, however, watch someone eat a barbequed armadillo on the half-shell (somewhere in south america) on the travel channel just a few days ago- can't remember if it was Anthony Bourdain or Andrew Zimmern. Anyways- I don't think it's worth the trouble to make that exotic meal myself. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.

Don't eat opossums either....and to be safe, stay away from eating skunks, though I've heard they taste like chicken... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
flytyer57 Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Don't eat opossums either What? No more of granny's 'possum stew? Jed move away from here. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I've eaten possum, but I wouldn't say it was good, too greasy. I've also eaten coons and groundhogs, and while both of them are fatty, they aren't to the degree possum is. Actually groundhog is pretty good, but it's the only herbivore in the bunch. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
