ollie Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 Anyone who wants or needs info on the Capps let me know, I only live 20 minutes away from there and know the stocking schedule most of the time. motroutbum Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 theres a new catch and release season on hickory creek. its the same duration asthe trout parks but you can fish everyday. i worked for the mdc this summer out of neosho so i know that creek pretty well There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 19, 2005 Root Admin Posted December 19, 2005 Would Hickory Creek be worth a separate forum? There's alot of these small creeks around but I don't want to add every one of them... was thinking about adding the Elk River- it's a great smallmouth stream and floated alot.
ollie Posted December 19, 2005 Author Posted December 19, 2005 Hard to say Phil, Hickory is very, very small. Did I mention how small it is? Ya, motroutbum that was the skinny I got from Dave over at the hatchery too. Check out my previuos post on them getting cleaned out and I think you know what I am talking about. Leonard Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 I liked fishing in Hickory creek... Ive caught everything from crappie to bluegills.. and trout to suckers.. The whole time I lived in Neosho I may have seen less then 10 people fly fishing it.. My opinion is... that if you did make a place for it... you'll have more flyfisherman going there.. maybe hooking more fish and getting them more skittish of fisherman... Also to add... There will be more people there watching for the law-breakers ( that not many knows who we are speaking of).. But the down side of post for Hickory creek... there are alot more creeks around Neosho.. even some good smallie fishing around Joplin (just cant think of the name of it...South on Main street that all I remember).. Its a really great tube floating creek!!! http://www.taneycomonights.com
Members tclubbs2 Posted December 20, 2005 Members Posted December 20, 2005 Greetings all. I just found this site and this is my first post. I have lived in the NEosho area for about 10 years now and have never fished Hickory Creek. I knew it was stocked from time to time with trout but figured it was fished out as soon as it was stocked and I never took the time to fish there. That is until Thanksgiving this year. My dad was in town and wanted to go fishing. He asked me about Hickory creek and we went. I took my 9 year daughter with us and in 2 hours my we caught about 10 fish in various spots up and down the creek. My wife called to tell us Thanksgiving dinner was ready and to come home. My daughter was mad because she was catching most of the fish. My dad caught a nice 2# rainbow. I have went every weekend since except this last when I went out of town. Unfortunately, I have heard that there are people netting the fish. The City of Neosho is spending money to make the park very nice but it won't attract any anglers if the MDC does not run enforcement there. I would hate to see a treasure like this go away because the conservation agents don't feel it is a priorty. If ran correctly I think that this has the potential to get very big. We just need the enforcement there.
Members Arkamo Traveler Posted December 22, 2005 Members Posted December 22, 2005 Most agents I have known are very diligent and will try hard to work in suggestions from the public. I also know that they are spread thin when you consider the area they need to cover per person. Anyway, I would suggest calling your local agent, and maybe the Sheriff of City Police?? Back To CAPPS (ollie especially). Do you have to follow the hatchery truck to catch 'em? It seems like there should be some "naturalized" older wizer fish in there. Is this a foolish hope?
