Members JGarland Posted May 15, 2011 Members Posted May 15, 2011 Hello fellow anglers! Title says a lot. I have lived in the great state of Missouri for about 7 months now, one of the first things I have learned living here; is that in Missouri the term Hoosier is not used in the same context here, as it is in Indiana My Dad was born and raised in Missouri and most of his side of the family lives here, so I don't exactly feel like I am on the moon. I love to fish, Bass fish for the most part. The anticipation of the hunt and the challenge of fishing, like they say 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water. There is nothing more surreal then being on the water as nature begins to teem with life with the morning sunrise and the smells that come with it (no I'm not talking about the smells of the occasional morning flatulence from the mexican ate the night before) Seriously though, most, if not all who read this know what I am talking about. When I first got into Bass fishing heavily, it was ponds and the occasional creek with my brother and a few other bass fishing friend diehards. Next I explored the realm of club tournament fishing, yes it was fun for a few years the comradery was great and it put forth a whole new set of challenges. Heck I even represented my club in the State Finals once BUT I found that the whole tournament scene took something away from why I loved to Bass fish in the first place.....the relaxation of it, I didnt want to feel the pressure of NEEDING to catch a fish. Anyway it is kind of hard to explain unless you yourself have had the same epiphany. So that was my short 5 year stint in tournament fishing. Having a good fishing buddy and hitting a small lake or pond.....thats what it's all about for me, and frankly fellow Missourians (I guess thats what you call someone from Missouri) that is what I am missing here, a good fishing buddy. I am currently in South St Louis real close to the Jefferson County line but I am in the Farmington area a lot visiting a family member in the area. If anyone needs a fishing bud shoot me a message. For those of you that managed to read this far, thanks for sticking with my long winded........errrr long lettered intro. duckydoty Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Welcome to the forum. Believe it or not, I'm a Hoosier transplant. Lived in Putman County, (Cloverdale) till the 7th grade when the family moved to St. Charles. Took me forever to migrate down to Southern Missouri. Now I only spent the winters here. Lots of great things to do in this state. You will get lots of ideas from this forum. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
Members JGarland Posted May 15, 2011 Author Members Posted May 15, 2011 @ FishinCricket - Thanks, that sounds great! Believe it or not I have a cousin that lives in Lebanon, Lois Sibert- know her by any chance? That would be great to do some river fishing! Never tried fly fishing and I see that quite a few posters have that in there hobbies. About as close as I have come to doing that is watching A River Runs Through It, would like to experience fly fishing. I am sure I could make arrangements to stay at my cousins sometime this year. Just let me know. @duckydoty- I am familiar with Cloverdale, fished Cataract a.k.a. Cagles Mill lake and camped there quite a few times. I absolutely love it here in MO! Actually my Mom said I was conceived here so I don't know if that makes me a Missouri native or not......hmmm guess I should make a poll and go with the majority vote. The family members in Farmington have about 77 acres that I get to deer hunt and turkey hunt......keep telling them they need about a 5-7 acre pond now to make it complete. So as far as that goes I have managed to expereince a few things here already and I am game for more! Members Plowboy Posted July 2, 2011 Members Posted July 2, 2011 I moved to Branson from Indiana. Spent almost 10 years in Indianapolis.
techo Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Welcome to the family! Had the same experience as you with tourney fishing. I loved it but why pay an entry fee for something when I can do the same thing anyway? I still do like fishing tournies though/. Tim Carpenter
