taxidermist Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Does anyone know if there is a rebulider in the area Branson, SGF Mt Home. BerryVille. I have a starter motor with a dead spot, I can pop the cover turn the starter motor drive about 1/3 of the way around and its fine until it hits the dead spot. Not many hours on this motor either. 2007 2 stroke. tillar
gotmuddy Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 starters are easy to rebuild. you just need new brushes. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Members Whiteriver Posted December 16, 2011 Members Posted December 16, 2011 I know this post is old, but I have the exact same problem on my 2007 25 hp Yamahaknocker. The brushes are not worn at all and have plenty of wear left on them. I cleaned the brushes and it still does the same thing. Someone told me the starter had a dead spot on the armature and it wasn't the brushes. Any ideas on the problem here? It seems this is a problem with these motors...
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted December 17, 2011 Root Admin Posted December 17, 2011 Gosh I didn't see this. Sorry. Taney Electric, Fall Creek Rd 417-334-0400 I'll have Ryan (works for us) type something out tomorrow. He rebuilds our starters and the ones that he can't we take to Taney Electric.
gotmuddy Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 does the armature smell burnt? likely the windings have melted some. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Thanks, did I read on here a while back that you guys might have had starter problems with some of your Yamaha 25 HP's? These starters look like they came off of a riding lawn mower. Pretty flimsy starters compared to an Evinrude/Johnson--Merc's (at least 2 strokes) are pretty flimsy too--you could just replace the end cap on the Merc's and be good to go..
