mic Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I'm trying to mix dubbing for the first time, but having problems getting it to mix thoroughly. Any recommendations? Thanks In Advance, MIC
Rolan Duffield Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Get an old blender such as used in the kitchen for making milkshakes. Put a very small amount of the fur, etc. you want to blend in the blender. Select the fastest speed and turn on the blender for 3 or 4 seconds. Continue doing this in small amounts with the rest of the material to be blended. Now take the complete mix and pull it apart with your fingers to mix it in this way. Repeat the above steps 4 or 5 times until your satisfied with the eveness of the blending for the entire batch. The secret to this is to blend using small amounts and using a fast speed with the blender. It only takes a few seconds to achieve good blending this way. If you try to use large amounts, you will not achieve good results. Rolan
flytyer57 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I use a coffee grinder made by Mr.Coffee. I think I paid about $20 for it at K-Mart or Walmart. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

If you go this route get one with a blade and not ceramic stones. On the other hand there are a lot of combinations out already mixed, even those under the same description can vary according to the beholder. One advantage of buying premixed is that when you find a winner it's normally easy to replace. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
jdmidwest Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Sometimes you have to mix it wet. Add water to blender to make things flow better. Or put the mix in a jar with water and shake it well. Get a tea strainer and filter out the dubbing, lay out on towels or cardboard to dry. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Rolan Duffield Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 One thing I forgot to mention is that you need to cut the fir, etc. into pieces no longer than 1/2" before starting to blend it. Rolan
Nortrad Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I've used the Charlie Craven method with the air can and freezer bag with good results, just remember to puncture the bag 2-3 times with your scissors, or it will explode a small cloud of dubbing onto your shirt and lap...
Brian Wise Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 I've used the Charlie Craven method with the air can and freezer bag with good results, just remember to puncture the bag 2-3 times with your scissors, or it will explode a small cloud of dubbing onto your shirt and lap... The ONLY way to do it Nortrad. Thrown it in the bag you will keep it in and pull the trigger. My Youtube Channel
