Thanks for the info. We ended up picking up a Canon Digital Rebel XT because we already had a 28-200, and 18-55 for a Canon body and filters to match. It got some great shots at my step-bro's wedding a week ago. Looking forward to seeing what it does in Y.Stone next week. Cheers.

Gavin,

Like you, I'm about to take the plunge into the digital SLR camera world. I've been using an old Pentax KX film camera for years and it's given me some great pictures. I've been reading tons of reviews and of course Nikon and Canon are all the rave, but there is a "sleeper" camera out there that has really caught my attention. Moreover, the reviews at Cnet.com are most impressive. Before you buy, check out the Olympus EVOLT 500. From what I've discovered, you can't really go wrong with it, and at about half the cost of the others. It's 8 megapixel too with a dust reduction system. I've talked to some pros and they agree that it's hard to beat. Again, check Cnet.com for more info...oops, just read your last post. Too late. Enjoy your new camera.

We recently bought a Canon W2 (I believe it is). It was $400 at Target. My wife has a degree in photography and she is really impressed with this camera. You will also need a memory card for it and that's about another $75.
