Members T Hood Posted May 31, 2011 Members Posted May 31, 2011 The description says it all. Who's had any luck in the big lakes? A friend went out this weekend and got skunked. Usually, these lakes produce. Feedback, please.

Also landed about 10 really small crappie that I left to grow a little. Was fishing around the corner from the boats for the crappie and middle somewhere for the large mouth. I had a portable fish finder.
Greasy B Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 Yep, Busch can be a real bear, given the intense pressure and the quantity over quality Bass regulations. You did well. I have at times flirted with big bass but after 35 years have yet to land any bass over 3#. I have spent countless evening’s catching decent Bluegills and Red-ears. I love the place and use it as my back yard, His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. I also enjoy catching small bass and crappie with light spinning gear but haven't landed any lunkers either. I really don't expect any more. It is what it is.
duckydoty Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 One of my largest bass came from Busch. About 25 years ago, upon returning from the desert in April, went to one of the smaller lakes and caught an 8 pound 1 ounce large mouth. Have caught several others in the past around the 5 pound range. Would get a nice one about once a year from the pond by the rifle range. Great place to go when you live in the STL area and only have a couple of hours to fish. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
stlfisher Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Fish Busch a lot in the evenings after work as I work in Chesterfield. I have landed some big bass, but it is a long time between quality fish. Your best bet is too fish it a night in the fall. The fish are quite educated as we all know. Most of my bigger bass have come out of the Catfish lakes...I think they receive less bass fishing pressure than the others.
Members T Hood Posted June 12, 2011 Author Members Posted June 12, 2011 I tried Lake 35 Saturday morning with my 6 year old daughter. Obviously, it wasn't all day affair. Some of the shoreline in the NW corner of the lake looked good. It produced one 13" bass on a tube. Most success came from fishing weed lines. The weeds are very heavy on the east side of the lake. Trolling motor is useless. Fishing the weed lines produced three more, again, tubes were the answer. We fished Lake 31 from shore later. I lost a popper to broken line on what looked like, at least, a 4# fish. Shame on me for not checking my line after freeing it from a snag. I liked 31 as a C&R lake and the quality of shore fishing. As others have stated, I haven't heard of too many larger fish coming out of 33, 34, & 35.

stlfisher Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 How do you fish Busch at night... I thought they closed the gate at dusk! It is open until 9pm...in the fall you can fish a couple hours after dark before 9pm hits. Obviously you can't fish at night in the summer since it gets dark at 9pm. I think the gates close at 10pm fishing at 9pm.
Members T Hood Posted June 29, 2011 Author Members Posted June 29, 2011 I'm looking at having another go at ABCA Friday night starting around 5pm. 33, 34, and 35 are all idea. Who's had any luck in these lakes? Again, I'd like to have a go at the Muskie in 35, but, I'm thinking it's still way too hot to get them to come up from the deep weeds. I've seen quite a bit of vegetation in Lake 35. Has anyone tried drop shotting along the weed lines? Thanks in advance. Any help is more than welcome.
