jdmidwest Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Yep! They are so use to being taken care of--they can't look out for themselves. The others only think about themselves, there are no other people in their world! yep! "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Greasy B Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Except between me and my buddy’s fishing is not a social activity. I have given up on all streams that do not give me the opportunity to fish in seclusion. Rest assured there is are many streams where you can have quality fishing and not be within a 100 yards of anyone. When it comes to angling “people are the enemy”. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. Al Agnew Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 The situation at the trout parks just reinforces the morons. When you're fishing in those kind of crowded conditions like opening day and weekends especially, it makes people think only of themselves. People that see that kind of crowding, even if they aren't anglers, just think (if they think at all) that it's normal and the anglers don't mind crowding. It isn't a political ideology thing, it's either ignorance or what I call the "center of the universe syndrome"...people who simply believe the world revolves around them, and nobody else matters. Which is getting more and more common these days. They don't think about their impacts on others, and they do think that others should be constantly aware of THEM.
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 What about pure spectators? People who may have no understanding of fly casting, and may even want to get as close as possible to take a picture I wouldn't deliberately harm anyone with my flyrod, but I'm not everyone's keeper either, they'll learn. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members kux99 Posted June 12, 2011 Members Posted June 12, 2011 I had a similar situation at a local lake here in Kansas City. I was out fly fishing for stocked rainbow trout there. A black SUV pulls up about 20 yards to the side of me next to my truck and watches me as I was fly fishing for a good 10 minutes. I am sure he was aware of my back cast and how far it goes back behind me. He sees me catch a trout. I lay my fly rod down on the ground where I caught the trout at and head to my vehicle to get a stringer. This guy, proceeds to back his vehicle all the way to where I was fishing at and parks it where my back cast was going. The area he parked at was not even a parking spot, it was all grass. Where he was originally parked at it was graveled up. Then he has the nerve to approach me while I was looking for my stringer to tell me he wanted to try fly fishing too because he has never done it before. I wanted to say, First of all, you need to respect a fly fisherman's casting by not parking your vehicle at his back cast. Then he asked, is that all you do is whip it back and forth to cast it? I looked at him and did not say a single word to him. I went to get my fly rod, got in my truck, and went somewhere else.
FishinCricket Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Sounds like you had ample opportunity to school someone who was obviously ignorant... What gives? cricket.c21.com

flytyer57 Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 you probably should have said "yes, and you'll know you have it right when you here the line snap behind you". Should say: "Yes. and you'll know I'm doing it correctly when you walk behind me and I hook your dumb a**." There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Thom Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Should say: "Yes. and you'll know I'm doing it correctly when you walk behind me and I hook your dumb a**." Wow I never cease to learn something about fishing when I read posts here. Now when I am fly fishing and I see someone approaching me I just ask how they voted last election. If they say democrat a wait for them to pass , If they say republician I just keep casting cause they will say passing by and walk by quietly like all conservatives do. Thom Harvengt

Next time I see ya out there, I will answer Democrat and then just stand there so you can't fish. When you leave that good spot, I'll start fishing it. How's that for your conservativeness.
