back2roots Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 That's nice news to hear Phil. Will heading down this weekend to take care of some stuff at the house. Will stop by on Saturday or Sunday to see if you have any boats left for a half day rental. Blessings! Bill If you liked the sound....Thank the engineer!
Cocry Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I'm coming down the week of june 18th. If weather continues the way it is, and i know this is completely a crapshoot, but do you think that wading might be possible? We family vacay there every year and I would have access to a boat, but I'm not to comfortable doing it myself. Last year I probably put in 30-35 hours on taney in 6 days with a 35 minute drive back and forth so i'm hoping it won't be a bust for me. Thanks in advance, Cory
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 6, 2011 Author Root Admin Posted June 6, 2011 I may be wrong but I think we are going to see this generation most of the summer. I'd count on it and if there's down water and I'm wrong, then you'll be better off for it. But plan on it running.
Members pinecone Posted June 7, 2011 Members Posted June 7, 2011 Boards are still down. Between 707 and 708 right now. Phil, What is the level of Taney with no units running? Jerry

Thanks in advaxnce, Cory I could be wrong but I'll bet we are looking at 2 to 4 generators running most of June and July. As has been stated you can do some limited wading with 2 generators but it's pretty limited. You can even wade a few places with 4 generators running but then the choices are extremely limited to just a few very short stretches that tend to be crowded. Cocry Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 With 4 generators and a boat, is it possible to successfully fly fish or do I have to resort to bringing my open-face. Who would you recommend for me to go to for a guide service to fly fish if they are pushing 4 generators? Thanks, thanks, thanks, Cory
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 8, 2011 Author Root Admin Posted June 8, 2011 Generators- using the number to tell flow is very deceiving. When you say 4 generators, you're implying there's 4 units on full. That's usually not the case. Since the dropped the water, they have NOT been generating 4 FULL units.... it's been more like 2 to 3 units, mainly 2. Look at megawatts. Or look at the lake level. To answer your question- yes it is very possible to use a fly rod. Out of a boat- it's more likely. Off the bank below the dam- yes but limited.
Rolan Duffield Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Cory: You can catch Trout in Taney with the water running on either the fly rod or a spinning rod. The important part is to keep the lure on the bottom with the high waters we are experiencing. My preference is always the fly rod. There are many articles and contributors to this site that will give you good advice. As far as who is a good guide. Any of the guides registered at Lilleys are good. The one I personally know is Bill Babler. He's a very good fisherman and i'm sure he will be glad to teach you how to fish the lake.
