9LB Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Got to fish two days after the holiday. We had limits each day and were culling walleyes. Caught every keeper on a nightcrawler rig. Did some bass fishing and did well with a big plum plastic worm and a small white crankbait. Caught a bunch of crappie trolling small crankbaits in about 23 ft of water. The fishing was really good. Got a little warm but had a wonderful two days.
Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I am by no way trying to be difficult here and I congrat you on the walleye catch!! they are biting awesome!! But I to used the word culling in a report last year, shorter than saying catch and release. Someone turned me in for culling (when we were really catching and releasing) Just in case you didn't know, the act of actually culling fish (except for a bonafide bass tournament) is illegal. once a fish goes into the livewell, it counts toward your daily limit. It is probably hard to really get caught doing this, but if someone sees you looking at the fish and letting the smaller ones go, then you can get a ticket for it. Please don't take this as I am trying to be a jerk, I don't think most people even know that it is illegal, but it is in the rule book!! Once you got your limit, you can keep fishing, but you must release your catch, not what is in your live well. Guess now I sit back and see if people start dogging me for writing this, LOL. But really just don't want someone to get in trouble for doing something they didn't know was wrong. curtisce Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 in Ontario walleye have to be killed when placed in the "live well". My friend got a ticket for not doing so. Walleyes caught during a summer tournment in Minn. were kept inside a netted area after releasing them live and there was a 90% kill rate so that's the reason. The answer may not lie at the bottom of a glass, but you should always check
straw hat Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Bob, you are 100% right. Well said. You explained that perfectly. I always respect your attitude toward regulations and safety. Good fishing to you sir.

Walcrabass Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 While we are talking about the "Illegal" stuff I will mention again that EVEN IF YOU ARE IN A BONAFIDE BASS TOURNAMENT in the state of MISSOURI in JULY or AUGUST it is ILLEGAL to CULL. Once they are in the live well they cannot be traded, culled, or put back in the lake and replaced with another fish. I feel pretty sure this practice has happened in a Bass tournament or two. Too bad that when this results in taking home the top money the real winner may have went home empty handed. If I am incorrect about this someone please let me know as I haven't looked it up in a while. LONG LIVE THE LARGEMOUTH!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe Missouri could start a Monster Bass program with the Department of Conservation. Kinda like the share a lunker in Texas. Any MDC people out there with some ideas?????
9LB Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 I meant catching not culling I would never want to do anything illegal. From now on I'll just catch the big one's first. Thanks for the heads up. I am from Northern Michign and have never heard of such a rule. I guess it is because the temp is so warm here and up north it is usually about 75 degrees.
powerdive Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Hey Bob, I thought the letter of the law was, once you have your limit, you're done. Catch another, unless by accident when clearly fishing for another species (and that's always debatable), you're over your limit the moment you bring the fish in the boat, even though you intend to release it. A ticketable offense. But are you saying it's legal to keep fishing (C&R) even though you have your limit onboard?????
Martin Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I believe powerdive is correct... It's Missouri law....
