Jack Jones Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I'd love to get away for on either an extended weekend, or during the week towards the end of summer. I'm looking for a place that has fishing there, or within driving distance. I don't own a boat (except my kayak). I do want a cabin, with private indoor plumbing/shower (LOL) because I am not an experienced camper like many of those on the forum. That, and I seriously just enjoy some creature comforts. I'm willing to drive up to 5 hours from Springfield, MO. I'm not targeting a specific species. I could bring flies, or spincast. It's all about just getting a little peace and maybe catching a few fish on a budget. Suggestions, please? rps Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 You might consider the Eureka Springs area and focus on the upper Kings River or go the other way from Harrison and target the middle Buffalo River. Both are excellent areas to fish from a kayak and have many places to stay on or near the river.
grizwilson Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 www.rimshoals.com Gary, Paula, AB and Rebeca are great host. They have everything from camper cabins (ac etc. shower house) to the lodge cabins. Fishing excellent. “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 You don't say whether or not you have a shuttle or if you need water at the door? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Jack Jones Posted June 11, 2011 Author Posted June 11, 2011 I don't have a shuttle. I will need water at the door. The only shuttle I have is on top of my car, so where I put in, I either have to paddle back to it, or find a shuttle to take me upstream. rps Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Russ's place on Elk River is also an idea. Goes by Wacky Worm on this forum.
Aaron J Scott Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Check out the Tree House Cabins at River of Life Farm. If you're on a tight budget, they still have some options. Great river, great fishing, and a beautiful setting. Save Scratch, Raise Cash. Fish Itch!
Jack Jones Posted June 12, 2011 Author Posted June 12, 2011 Thanks for all the suggestions. I checked out River of Life's website. Looks real good. May do it in a few weeks. Might have to get over the issues with camping and they look like a good place to do it at since they seem really on top of things. What's the name of Wacky Worm's place? I saw a bunch of places listed as being on the Elk River. Was looking strongly at River Ranch. Rim Shoals also looked good since one of my goals is to hit the White River. That would likely be in the fall. "Thanks to Mother Mercy, Thanks to Brother Wine, Another night is over and we're walking down the line" - David Mallett
Trout Commander Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Budget wise I would look at Sunburst Ranch on the NFOW. They have have several options from tent camping on up. I have never been to ROLF so I am not knocking them one iota, but having been to Sunburst many times I can guarantee you that you WILL NOT be able to find better people or service anywhere. Actually, I just got back from taking my four year old on his first float in the drift boat. My mom was along for the float also and as we pulled into the put in we realized we left his life jacket in our vehicle back at Sunburst. Justin was shuttling us in his vehicle since mine doesn't have a hitch. He volunteered to run back and grab it. He didn't even guffaw or scoff at my stupid mistake. Oh and there was this time too. Plus, he has really cool stickers and shirts for cheap too! I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
