Evolution Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 Would you be interested in a matching quantum smoke rod (7'4" heavy) and reel (151-left handed)? It has minor scratches but overall I would give it a 8.5/10. I also have a C3 5501 (lefty) with the clicker on the side plate that has been tuned with new bearings and drags.
drew03cmc Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 I am decidedly right handed, but thanks for the offer. When I do ANYTHING left handed, I look ridiculous. Eric, are you sure it would be you giving me the whoopin'? I am sure you have a few years on me...pounds too probably. Andy
Members Grant Miller Posted June 19, 2011 Members Posted June 19, 2011 I don't know any of the parties involved here, but I did have a comment, hope it's not considered out of line. The left handed bait casting reels are kind of nice for a right hander because you keep the rod in your right hand for casting, hook setting, reeling, working the bait, etc. and you reel with the left hand. This is the same set up as most right handers have with spinning reels and a lot of right handers set up their fly equipment this way as well. To me, the left handed bait casting reels are really right handed, but my mental capacity has been questioned on numerous occasions. As always, your mileage may vary. drew03cmc Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 You make a good point, but I prefer to reel with my right hand on casting gear. I would be extremely open to an Abu Garcia 4500 or 4600 if the price is right. Andy
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 If you buy from people who have good feedback ratings, you're almost totally safe. I've done hundreds of transactions on ebay with no problems. And paypal offers buyer protection to keep you from getting screwed. I had one bad purchase on E-Bay and the seller didn't want to make it good, pay pal put the pressure on and they changed their mind. The Abu's are good reels, but for the lighter stuff they can work you. For the lighter stuff it's hard to beat a Shimano. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

That's what everyone says, but dang it, I hate the sticker pricing on the Shimanos. I have a hard time dropping a Ben Franklin on a reel. Andy
Flysmallie Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I hate the sticker pricing on the Shimanos. Don't worry, I hate Shitmanos even if they are free. Yeah, it's probably unwarranted, but I had a lot of problems with them years ago.
Quillback Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 If Dave doesn't have what you are looking for, is there a Basspro is your area? They have a sale on the BPS Pro Qualifier for $79, never used one myself, but in general they get good reviews and it was an Outdoor Life value pick(PQ) in 2009 at a higher price. They also have the new Enigma line which are $99, but are supposedly very tough to backlash. Just go to Google and do a search on the reel model followed by the word review. If there is a BPS in your area, go to the reel counter and check out the reels, look at the Shimanos also. Talk to the guys behind the counter, get them to show you the features.
