dtrs5kprs Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Just returned to KS from Kimberling City. Good trip overall. Never really got on the dragging bite, but did find some quality swimbait fish. Main lake places with quite a bit of depth and trees that ran up to 10'-15' from the surface, some swings and deep large points at mouths of creeks, also some deep secondaries. Places where you would be able to see and fish visible wood at power pool. Had a 22 & 1/2" black, two over 20", and a few that did not see the boat but felt solid. Almost all blacks, brownies and K's seemed to nip at the baits. Used a 4" Berkley and Storm inside head swimbait in pearl, 15# seaguar, 7' Hvy jig rod to swim the baits slowly through the tops and over the points. Counting baits down to a 6 or 8 count then slow winding. That swimbait will make you feel like KVD when they are eating it. That bite was consistent but slow. Kids needed something requiring less patience, so I put the swimmer down Friday and went shallow with the super finesse rig (1/16oz head with 1/2 of a ZinkerZ, Zero, or Senko type worm). Found blacks and brownies eating craws and shad in 2' to 10' inside the bushes on flat main lake places. Lots of shorts, but also around 12 keepers in about 10 hours total stick time on that bait, couple of solid fish. Close to the same areas we also caught some chasers. With sun you can move out to the outsides of the bushes in 10' to 15' and catch solid brownies running a big crankbait like a large fat free shad or DD22, cranking hard. Wife and kids had a ball with these fish, very simple and easy bite, pics will show the types of water. Did not attempt it with the kids, but believe you should be able to go heavy in there and flip out some good ones.
abkeenan Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 DTRS- Great Report and thanks for sharing. Is the rod float for the kids or wife? Just kidding ladies. Probably more Zebco 33 Classics on the bottom of the lake than rocks. Thinking about trying to get down there this weekend and these reports are making me drool. Again thanks for the report and pics.
dtrs5kprs Posted June 21, 2011 Author Posted June 21, 2011 The floaties have already bailed me out once, and two more near misses. Won't say who... Swimbait fish were better once the sun got up. Those two were after I changed out kids at 9am, probably around 945am to 1030am. Kind of felt bad, had a guy behind me who was clearly prefishing for the Cops tmt when I yanked those two out.
Tfsh4bass Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Great report and the swimbait bite is a lot of fun. I am addicted to it and have been throwing it since Feb.
