MoCarp Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 “The English only fish for Common carp because they do not have anything else to fish for in their nasty polluted waters” Bollocks mate!!!! It is a myth that the English have nothing or nowhere to fish!!! Northern Pike: pike grow far bigger in the Europe than they do in the states How would you like one of these babies? Zander a UK favorite very much like our walleyes didn’t North or South Dakota stock some of these a few years ago? Here are some UK Yellow perch that any Midwesterner would love to catch! These are called bream and can be a pest and over run a lake much like our crappie can do here This is a barble—sort of like our red horse suckers here This is the mighty wells catfish—looks like a Flathead crossed with an eel The 1st one is more common size This one shows the possibilities These are called roach—if they look like you have seen these before –its because they raise them for bait minnows in the USA These are Tench these fish a tough brusers These are Eels and are said to make great wells catfish bait Even Rainbow and Brown trout just like we have in the good US of A Last nut not least, a classic Semo Strain of carp from a UK lake MONKEYS? what monkeys?
gonefishin Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Great pics and info. But a question. Are all those fish native to Europe? I would rather be fishin'. MoCarp Posted August 8, 2006 Author Posted August 8, 2006 some are, some are not pike are, rainbow trout and browns are not--many fish in the UK have shadowy origins which species where you refering? MONKEYS? what monkeys?
motroutbum Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Brown trout are native to europe!! Where do you think the name German brown came from? The UK also has Sea run browns, much like the ones in argentina ; only not as large as their southern cousins!! There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!

Just like here non-native--in fact No trout are Native to any waters in Missouri, just think if the go-native pundents have their way we would tear out the dams, and stock the Snail Darter!!! the horse is out of the barn since we forever altered the waters of this land so "native" really has no other reason than to justify persecution considering what changes have been done since settlers 1st came here. gonefishin Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 some are, some are not pike are, rainbow trout and browns are not--many fish in the UK have shadowy origins which species where you refering? I was just curious. The only species I noticed that I knew wasnt native was the Rainbow. I know Brown Trout came from Germany so they are of UK origin. The others I don't know about. I am not a 'go-native pundent' who is ready to rip out dams and I am certainly not out to make you mad. I am just curious as to why we here in the US seem to think our fish, music, art, wildlife or whatever isn't good enough. We have some of the greatest fish in the world why do we have to import fish and why do we concern ourselves with what the brits are catching. What is wrong with Bluegill, Walleye, Sauger, Paddle Fish, Flathead, Muskie, Drum, Redhorse, White Sucker, Rainbow, Cut Throat, Steel Head, Small Mouth Bass, and White Bass, just to name a few. And more importantly why do we continually run the risk jeaprodizing our natural fisheries by stocking non-native species. I would rather be fishin'. motroutbum Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 nevermind....i was refering to the post that gonefishin asked if they were native to EUROPE not just the UK. I never said anything about them (rainbows and browns) being native to missouri....but whatever...what do i know...im just a kid with a fisheries bio degree! There are two types of people. Wayne SW/MO Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Actually GF, the Carp were stocked around the middle of the 1800's as a rapidly growing food source. I think you have to remember that all there were, for the most part, were creeks and rivers and there was no fish that was abundant enough provide a good source of food in smaller waters. There was no concern for "sport" fish, only easy to catch food fish. At about the same time they were killing, and eating, every deer, elk, and turkey they could kill. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
