Greg
Has anyone caught many brown trout at Bennett this year? Or even a few? I know they started stocking more this past year. But I've been to Bennett at least once a month this spring and summer and have yet to catch one. And I've only seen one caught. The one I saw caught was a pretty decent fish and it was taken up by the spring. I've had good trips so far this year but no browns. Just wondering if many are being caught. thanks, Greg "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell
gonefishin
I have seen a few caught but nothing like I expected. I havent seen anymore caught this year than normal. It is my opinion, and I know that doesnt really mean much, that they are not stocking near the trout they were; Browns or Rainbows. I would rather be fishin'. Kayser
I got a hit from one that might have gone 15", but it got off before I got it in. Real shame, they fight so well in the faster water. brittsnbirds
I usually catch 1 or 2 during a trip. However it is when I am stripping Crackles with full sinking line. I've caught several 15" fish. I have also caught some outside the park on the Niangua.
snagged in outlet 3
I stopped at Bennett on the way, to and from Taney a couple of weeks ago. Caught 4 browns Friday on the way down and caught 2 on Sunday on the way back. I like it. One of them on Friday was a 15 inch plus keeper but I let it go anyway. All of them took dry flies. We caught fish almost at will on Friday but they were a little tougher come Sunday. I saw a lot of browns in the water besides the one's I caught. Snagged. McManus
Way to go Bigmouth! Where did you catch the browns? Are the browns concentrated in a particular zone? Greg
Snagged and Brittsnbirds Can I ask did you catch the browns in the upper park above the dam? Or below? That's encouraging that you have caught some. One of the things I like best about Taneycomo is the mix of browns and rainbows. thanks, Greg "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell
brittsnbirds
Greg, I usually catch mine in the deep holes just below the spring, above the stone falls.
Wayne SW/MO
I don't think the Browns like the branch all that well. Over the years most of them come from below the bridge, with the bulk of them below the whistles. Some are illegally kept, but I believe a lot of them hit the river. There have always, at least in the past, been a few that were big enough to eat stockers and sucker who stay. The river is still the best place, but you have to fish for them, and not trout, if you know what I mean. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman. snagged in outlet 3
McManus are you calling me a bigmouth? I don't understand why. BTW I caught the browns in the park. They are concentrated in Bennett Springs. Snagged.
