snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Hey JJ. Thanks for the complement. I didn't make the get together I had to work. What's up with kids and family that need to eat and have a roof over their head? I haven't had much luck on dries in the river in the fall and winter which is when I fish the river. My favorite method down at Ho-Hum is a full sinking line with either a crackleback or a bugger. Don't tell anyone though. I take most of the browns on streamers in the winter. I always go down for the winter opener with my family and plan to do so again this year. If anyone will be there let me know and we'll meet up. We have the spring hole cabins again and it's a great time at Bennett. Although it keeps getting more and more popular every year. I'm always up for getting together to fish especially with someone from the metro area. I just returned from a ghetto trip to Il. to catch some hybrids. Caught one that went well over ten lbs and a bunch of white bass. All on a 9 weight flyrod. I'm headed to Mountain Home Wed. - Sun. this week and I'll report when I get back. we're camping at Quarry Park. Snagged.
Terry Beeson Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 SIO3, You know about the DO and "mudslide" problems at Quarry, don't you? And even though you can't fish it, make sure to take a walk up the banks of Dry Run Creek. I saw one monster and there was another guy who saw an even bigger one downstream from me. Even though you will whimper a bit, it's still worth seeing those fish... snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Yes sir Mr Beeson. I know about the low DO levels, Overlook Mistakes and dry run. We go mostly to camp, cook on an open fire and I like to fleece the boys at Big Creek golf course. I know a little about you too. All good I might add! It's funny because I always camp there but never fish there. I remember times when you could stand at your campsite and see the whole area covered in redds and big fish all over the place. If it wasn't for Dry Run all those big trout would be dead or harvested. I've written to the governor and of course ADEQ. No answer from either. I don't spawn rape and really am not interested in catching tired fish. I hate the didimo problem at BSD. I was there for the conclave last week and the area doesn't look anything like it did 30 years ago. What a shame. I'll be honest though and tell you I'll fish McC's almost exclusively when I'm down there. They are closing off the access and I want to experience as much of that area as I can before Jan. 1. The fish I caught there last weekend were full of fight and I don't think low DO is a problem that far down river. The presence of thousands of suckers raised some concern though. I've been fishing there for 30 years and I've never seen that before. I enjoy your posts and hope to meet you formally sometime. Snagged.
Snow Fly Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 No access to McC after Jan 1 ? Gee what a bummer that is going to be. Guess I will have to look for a Kayak of some other way to get down there. I knew the land was for sale what is the new owner planning on? snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 They're not selling just closing the gate. They sold 40 acres up by the upper shoal and I guess thay don't need the money or hassel anymore. Snagged.
Terry Beeson Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I know a little about you too. All good I might add! Snagged. Man... have I got YOU fooled! You must've been talkin' to my momma... Ain't nobody else gonna give you that report... Yep... we'll have to get together sometime for sure... I was reading through this thread again... Did I hear someone say "wading" in the same sentence with "Crappie?" mmmmmmm... my mouth is waterin' already... Members Jr25 Posted October 19, 2006 Members Posted October 19, 2006 I caught about a 5.5lb brown about 2 weeks ago and usually catch at least 1 or 2 every trip. I am typically there every Tuesday and Wednesday and have noticed the browns hit better when there is not as many people around. Jr
