Members Milo
I have used several different types of canoe seats and have not found one yet that holds up well and is comfortable. I have used a couple of the Crazy Creek models, and a few of the cheaper stadium seats that are more ridgid,l but they don't seem to last. I am looking for a more ridgid, comfortable seat that will last a while. I have a 16' 4" oldtown canoe with the web seats and am about 6ft 220lb. Any and all suggestions appreciated. Flysmallie
I've been using a Sit Backer for years and have never had a problem with it. And I'm bigger than you.
TroutRinger
Haven't seen them in stores for a while (I'll let you know if that changes), but several friends and I have used a Walmart chair similar to this: http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Canoe-Stadium-Seat/product/10213338/-1666420 except the arm rest are 90 degrees. Very sturdy and durable. They have been in tipped canoes pinned against log jams with rushing current and have never broken. "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." hoglaw
I have a sit backer like the one pictured and it is awesome. Highly reccommend. I'm 5'11, 235.
Wheatenheimer
When I am sharing the boat with someone else, I use the Bass Pro Stadium style sitbacker. The only thing I don't like about it, is the back doesn't want to stay in the position that I select and even in it's most upright position, it seems to be a little too reclined for my liking. When I am paddling solo, I like to use my GCI Wilderness Recliner that my in-law's bought for me one Christmas. It is basically a low profile lawn chair that I set right behind the front seat of my boat facing the stern and paddle the boat the opposite way. I am 6 foot and weigh 210 and the latter is my preference, but that may be because I am a control freak and would rather float without someone else in my boat! hoglaw
man, that wilderness recliner might be the hot ticket. One of my canoes has everything in it stripped out. It's basically a shell with no cross pieces. It doesn't track worth a darn anymore, but I did that when I was fishing some very very shallow water on a regular basis, and when I was hooking up a trolling motor to hit some of our local electric only lakes. I have a small john I use for that now, but I still use the seatless wonder as a solo canoe. I have a couple of different chairs that I'll use, but that one looks awesome. tjulianc
I think I may have to get one of those CGI Wilderness chairs. Another option for a seat back on a bench canoe seat is one of these: You can find them for sale at the the boundary waters catalog. http://www.boundarywaterscatalog.com
