Headed down this weekend. Haven't fished this area in a couple of months. Anybody got any suggestions on where to start (main lake flats, docks in back of coves, channel banks, etc)?

Been down a couple of times in the last month (with the jet ski instead of the boat) and have seen several big balls of 4" shad working in an out the back of our cove.

flats, docks, back of coves, channel banks.

Put all that together at the same time and you're on'em.

Hint: you'll only be pitchin to 1 or 2 docks in each cove/creek arm....then running to the back of the next creek/cove to find the dock that is close to the channel of the back end flat.

10" worms and keep them moving.

I just got back from a week down there - our house is at the 53.5 mm and I fished from the 44 to the 60 and tried everythign I could think of - all our fishing was in the am - only caught dinks - I'd try fishing in the evening or the night. Water temp is a balmy 90. Good luck -post your results.

We managed to get about 9 hours in over the weekend. An hour right before dark Friday, about 5 hours early Saturday morning, a couple hours Saturday afternoon and evening, and an hour this morning. Caught around 20 with 3 keepers. Best 5 went around 15.

Found 3 three pound keepers on texas rigs in one brush pile Friday evening on a main lake flat, they were in about 5' of water. Caught about 10 Saturday morning with two more keepers. The first keeper came in about 2' of water on a main lake flat on a crankbait. The second keeper came on a brush pile in the back of a creek on a soft plastic t-rig. Caught another 3# way under a dock in the back of our cove on Saturday afternoon. Caught two more keepers Saturday evening. Caught the first in the middle of the back of a cove on a texas rig. Caught the last 3 pounder in the same brush pile as Friday evening.

Lost two other good fish, one on a main lake flat Saturday morning. He hit close to the boat and made a hard run and pulled the hook out - think it was probably the biggest fish of the weekend. The other was Saturday evening in a brush pile. Set the hook and had him for a bit before getting hung in the brush and losing him. Also saw a couple of guys taking a picture of a pretty good bass on the way back in Saturday morning off a dock we had fished before the sun came up (they looked to be flipping).

Water was as warm as 92 at times. Wasn't quite as clear as it was last weekend. Shad were in our cove Friday and Saturday afternoon but they weren't as big or as thick as last weekend. Didn't catch a fish deeper than 6' of water.

I've never really attempted to fish main lake flats before - found a couple of spots that held some fish but had problems finding similar areas. Also fished quite a few docks on the flats that we never sniffed a bite on. I'm not really sure what I'm looking for as far as a good flat (lookng for flats close to the river channel, looking for brush, looking for a drain on them, etc).

Which cove are you on?

We are in the cove with Coffman Bend Marina.

I fished that a little right around the marina. I always gas up there and they do my maintenance. The point beside the Pizza place sometimes holds fish. Caught some good fish on the south side of the jetty that sticks out where the new house is (in the Spring).I'm at the 53.5 on the Laurie side in the cove where the big house is on the point (not mine).

I like the cove that you are in. Caught a few fish in there but not as many as it seems I should. I don't fish right there around the Pizza place as much as I should - don't know why. We've also caught some decent fish on the north side of the jetty. We've started fishing more around Proctor Creek and on up the lake from there and have started catching a lot more fish than we used to down there.

I was in the same area on saturday. The weather was really good for what it has been. We managed to fish untill about 1 o'clcok. We caught our fish about 1/2 the way back in main lake pockets. We had 6 keepers by seven thirty. We stopped getting bit around 11. Then the clouds came around and the fish bit again untill we left. We caught 10 fish, and nine of them were keepers. Our best five went around 16 pounds. Pay attention to what areas of the docks your fish come from. 6 of our 9 keepers came off the same exact location, on 6 diffrent docks.
