Yep, an Ozark stream largemouth of that size is a terrific fish. As much as I love smallies, I love getting into a big largemouth almost as much. 21 inches is huge. I've caught a few that were an inch or so longer than that, but not many, and one monster that was 25 inches.

Al, a 25" largemouth from a stream is anywhere from 7-10 pounds. I find that unlikely to have happened in an Ozark stream. Do you have a picture of this behemoth?

post-218-13121660969463_thumb.jpgDrew, here is the photo...as you can see it was healthy but not overly fat, I guessed it at eight pounds or so. It was caught in Feb. 2005 on the Meramec. Didn't get a picture of it on the paddle blade or anything else you could measure it from exactly. Marked the length on my rod and measured it when I got home. 24.5 inches on the rod, but that was with mouth and tail open. As you can see from my hand holding it, I didn't hold it out in front of me any farther than the length of my forearm.

This was at least 2.5 to 3 inches bigger than any other stream largemouth I've ever caught, and it ties for the longest largemouth I've ever caught, period. Probably not the heaviest, though--I caught one that weighed an even 9 pounds on Post Office scales, but it was only 23.5 inches long, from a subdivision lake in MO.

It was a gorgeous fish. There was a backwater slough off the river adjacent to where I caught it, and I suspect it spent most of its time in the slough.

Wow, I am impressed. That is a nice fish for a river in Missouri. He grew fat in the backwater no doubt. Wow, thank you!

Drew,

There are tons of Largemouth in a ton of rivers in Missouri over 22 inches and they get caught all the time. I find it funny that you question Al or anyone who says they catch 22 inch plus Largemouth on Missouri rivers. I guess in Kansas it's a news story if you do???

Nope, just tired of hearing about all of you guys running off at the fingertips, as it is, about catching these mammoth bass and having NO photographic evidence, other than pictures from a month ago. You, in particular, have no room to talk after posting pictures date stamped a month ago trying to pass them off as current. I was just asking Al for a picture of the big guy so I could see what he caught. Now, you have to re-read what I said. I said a doubted a 25" largemouth from a Missouri river as they are not that common. 22" fish are common. Re-read my post please before you run off at the mouth.

There is NO river access in Kansas, so yes, it would be amazing to catch a 22" bass in a Kansas river.

Al: awesome fish. I have never caught one that long. Heavy fish yes. Long like that, no.

The rest of you: Chill.
