I use a 3 wt. at taney all the time, but I am not throwing big streamers either. I match the rod weight with the size of fly I am throwing more than to a specific river.

My wife uses her 3wt. She landed a 16" bow with no issues.

It would be fine. The only exception would be if you fish the late fall run and target the big fish. Some of them are pretty healthy. Overall I would think you would enjoy it because most throw 16's and smaller. .

I use a 6' 3Wt all the time when wading. No real need to cast a long distance. Makes for a better fight. Use some strong leader material and hold on! I do bring my 5/6 in the fall though.
