Members crawfly Posted September 13, 2011 Members Posted September 13, 2011 The top link is the new sling from Orvis. My link The bottom is "older" stock. I have the older sling and just recently transferred from my old wood river tackle bag. I don't know if the new one is waterproof or not but I like the removable "compartment" of the older version better because you can relocate it to the strap. It does look like the new version has a couple d-rings added (the orange loops) which is a slight improvement over the old sling.

I have one of the old style orvis slingpacks and I love it- In fact Ive almost worn it out. A few modifications- foam fly patch on the front of the strap and a ghetto rigged d-ring in the back for my net- that pack is better than anything I have tried and I have a nice vest and a hip pack that I never use. Its definitely not waterproof. Also the removable part is nice- adds a good place to keep leaders and indicators. Anyway- I would get another one for sure if this one actually kicks the bucket. Only thing from orvis I've ever really liked. http://flyinthesouth.com/

exiledguide Posted September 13, 2011 Author Posted September 13, 2011 The new sling pack is called an Orvis Gale Force. If the gale force had been available at the time I probably would have bought it. I may still end up with one the Waterdance had pockets for water bottles and the the older sling pack didn't. Usualy I go with Orvis for fly boxes clothing etc. had never considerd Fishpond before.
Bill Babler Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I've only had one Fishpond bag, and the zipper went out. Probably my fault. Phil uses them with very good success. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Guest Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I got a Simms bag for my birthday. Its waterproof, unless water seeps thru the zipper. So, I guess its 95% waterproof until submerged.. http://www.simmsfishing.com/site/dry_creek_chest_hip_pack.html
