San Juan Above Or Below

Ok my question is "Are you guys using your San Juan above and dropping a scud or midge below it?? Or do you use the scud or midge above the San Juan. I like the San Juan above myself..

That's how I do it. Sometimes when the water is off and the fish are particularly fickle and I can sight fish, I will even use two San Juans. Always seem to be able and catch fish when nothing else is working.

I know everyday can be different but 3-4 weeks ago when we were down fishing. When they blew the horn and started running around 3 units i think, we had been using hot pink San juans and catching them alright for a while. Then they stopped biting. My brother-in-law tied on a yellow egg above the hot pink worm and started catching them left and right just by adding the egg pattern above it.

Then later that day they stopped biting the hot pink and we found out they wanted red.

I use it as a dropper. In high water, I use a "big" beadhead to get the SJ worm down.

Wouldnt this depend on what midge dropper you are refering to? If you were going to use a scud i would say put the san juan on top and drop the scud to the bottom. However, a migde (say a zebra midge or something to that effect) would be put above the san juan. Just a thought. And i agree with troutringer on using two san juans. It can be a killer combo if you cant find what color they are keying in on. Just make sure to get them both to the bottom

I usually put the san juan on top thinking it is the most visible there. also i am usually using the san juans during faster or higher water and often use a large size 12 big ruby midge with the tungsten head to help get the san juan down
