Guest Buck Creek Mike Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 I hava an older (probably 2001 or 2002 model) Lowrance X-91. I was wondering if this is obsolete as far being able to see a jig on the screen? In other words does it have enough power/cone angle? If not I am going to get another, and may even get another regardless. If I do what cone angle amI looking for - 60 degrees? Thanks, I also have an 1197 Humminbird sidefinder mounted to the console with the transducer at the transom that I am still trying to figure out.
Dutch Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Typically Lowrance units have a 20° cone. So the diameter is close to 1/3 of the depth. You have to keep that in mind when looking for your bait. The bait tends to get behind the cone when the ducer is on the trolling motor. For that reason I mounted one back a ways inside my hull. It is slanted starboard and forward to give me a pic on that side of the boat. However, with some experimentation you should be able to see your bait with the unit mentioned.
powerdive Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 I ran a 1992-vintage Eagle Ultra II Plus and a not-much-newer, similar-model Lowrance X-70A (the old gray connectors) until about 4 years ago, and was able to track a spoon or jig just fine even at 80 feet. With all units, I find much better definition in cold water.
johnm Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Good answer! You can also drop your jig down in front of your trolling motor and watch the graph as it sinks, if your transducer picks it up you'll have a line sinking down across your screen. [ \] or as you come back up. [ \/] On a drop shot my lowrance hds picks up swivel worm and sinker as three different objects sinking as three different lines stacked tightly together...
