junkman Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 bought a new camera the while back for taking with me fishing for it was one of those Fujifilm water proof cameras. Figured discounted for 43 dollars at Sears, it would work for taking along on my excursions. went out this evening and did pretty good on the bass but did catch one pink perch that was of good size, but can anyone tell me a name for it besides perch. Actually wanted to catch a big pumpkin seed perch but didn't catch one.
moguy1973 Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 I believe that's a longear sunfish... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longear_sunfish -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
junkman Posted August 30, 2011 Author Posted August 30, 2011 i have caught blue gill and red gill, but don't remember catching a pink gill. plus it's whole belly was a shade of pink. Thought it was kind of pretty. It was starting to get dusk, so I had to use the flash, so you can't see the pink perfectly.
MOsmallies Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 Looks like a Redear or Shellcracker. I don't think there are any species called red or pink gills. Probably just a different coloration of an actual species. Nice fish though!
Justin Spencer Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I'm going with a redear/green sunfish hybrid if there is such a thing. Seems to have a bigger mouth, and the markings below the eye of a green sunfish. Whatever it is it is a beauty! I think I'd call it dinner.
