It's their 7 mile float. Anyone done this stretch recently? Anything work particularly well? I haven't been out to Jamesville since the beginning of July. Didn't have much success fishing there, but that was when the temps were 100+.

Taking both the fly rod and spinning gear. Plan is to use the spinning gear sparingly until we get to riffles, then take out the fly rod with which I'll do most of my fishing. It'll be interesting to use my spinning gear, haven't used it in months ;).

BORING!!!

I agree, gotta use it sometime though. Don't want the dust clogging it up...

And don't worry, most of the trip will be me demonstrating just how much of a fly fishing aficionado I am (yeah right).

Last time I fished it (weeks back) it wasn't producing as well as the lower river usually does this time of year. It may have been because I had some spinning and casting rods, though.

Yeah, let's attribute it to that ;). Good news on that front. My cousin in law decided not to bring his fishing gear so I'm letting him borrow my spinning gear. Exclusive fly fishing for me!

Not gonna lie though, the weather is a concern. Always a concern trying to get down deep with fly gear. Oh well, the panfish are always game.

The river is low. Real low this year. There will be canoes bouncing off rock & riff tops everywhere. Some spots will be easier walking the canoe through. Depending on canoe load you will have to on some riffles anyways. Any holes deep enough will have the holiday crowd swimming in them.

What I've been throwing is on top or minimal weight. Getting deep isn't necessary because there is no deep. If you get to the bottom be ready to pull the "moss" off your hook(s).

Good luck fishing. Hope you catch a bunch.

I agree with crawfly, the river is low, very low. I use the Boaz gauge when I float this stretch. I wonder what this gauge's lowest reading is. We have to be getting close to it. And last time I went, I came to a few hole I wanted to fish just to find people swimming in them, which I understand, they had no other place to swim. But good luck, take picture of the fish and the lures you use.

I was worried about depth, but didn't realize it was that bad. I wasn't expecting many people out there on a Friday morning, but also failed to realize folks might be off for the holidays. Oh well, hopefully we find some fish and some undisturbed holes. If not we'll have plenty of beer ;).

When I spoke to the lady at Hootentown she intimated that we might be dragging in the beginning but that it shouldn't be bad after that. Hopefully that is the case.

That makes everything better. You will drag some but there will still be some good places to fish. Good luck.
