Snow Fly Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Noticed on Chartered Waters fishing report Thursday 9-1 they ran across and oil slick from below the dam and also found some below Trout Hollow...actually could smell the oil and fouled their fly line etc......anyone else hear of this incident? FRENZEL Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I was up at lookout early and it was terrible. It was up the sides of my boat and coated the banks as well. You could smell it and when you reached into the water for a fish it coated your arm. I thought it may have come through because it was still around even after some water had moved through. Leonard Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Maybe someone should call Taney County and tell them about it... this could be a BIG issue http://www.taneycomonights.com
Snow Fly Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 If some locals are reading this I think it would be a good idea to call the Taney County Emergency Response people......Not sure but I think it could fall within the US Coast Guard Jurisdiction.....had a fuel spill a few years ago in the Mississippi and it was under their jurisdiction. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted September 2, 2011 Root Admin Posted September 2, 2011 I saw it on the water yesterday am. Called MDC and they said they knew about it. The Corp told them that oil leaked from one turbine. It was fixed quickly yesterday morning and then the water turned on early to flush it out. It should dilute and dissipate in time. But there shouldn't be any upstream unless they have more problems with that turbine.
Members tkite Posted September 3, 2011 Members Posted September 3, 2011 I was fishing branson landing area last night and my wife noticed it. She asked me if my boat was leaking gas.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted September 3, 2011 Root Admin Posted September 3, 2011 I'm surprised it didn't hit the news... glad it didn't. Still may if it's still around, especially at the Landing. I did talk to someone at the Corp and he confirmed what I was told.
jdmidwest Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Funny, if an individual would have sunk a 5 gal can of gas in a stream, HAZMAT would have been all over it. But..... "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
