Hey everyone,

Yesterday I caught a Bigmouth Buffalo Fish on 4lb line that weighed around 28lbs. Are there state records for fish caught on certain test line weights? My uncle seems to think so, but I can't find them anywhere (I live in Missouri). The fish qualifies for the Missouri "Master Angler Award," though certainly not for the record largest Bigmouth Buffalo Fish. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Can't help you there but that is certainly impressive. Any pics?

I am pretty certain they have a record class for all of missouri's fish. As I recall, the smallmouth buffalo is 42 pounds. Do not know much about your fish. A picture or the actual fish will be required for ID. Good luck and let us know.

Sorry, I just noticed this on your original post. Missouri does not have line class records. Everything is all tackle, anything goes. State records are not like IGFA, they are not separated into line class. But it is big enough to check out.

Wouldn't you have to get the fish certified? One way or the other it is a really cool story, and you had a lot of skill to pull in a fish like that on 4lb test. Hat's off man, that is one to brag about.

I remember in the early 90s in the niangua arm

crappie fishing and saw a few of those beast feeding by the surface and was casting over the top of there

back and snagging them with 4lb line. after 30 mins of playing and resting my arms

first one was 27lbs.

bad thing was it stretched my line out so much the whole day was pulling nest out of my spool.
